Bpi Mtg with Senator Mikulski tomorrow...
Please wish Tess Gavagan (15 y/o) good luck tomorrow from all over the U.S. (or world). She is meeting with Senator Mikulski and Senator Dole is her sponsor - asking to be included in the 2010 Senate Appropriations Bill. She is asking that brachial plexus research be federally funded. This includes research for treatment and prevention. Tess will be testifying on our behalf just like Michael J. Fox does for Parkinson's research. Just tonight she asked me if she was going to be doing this alone. I told her that Senator Dole (who has a tbpi) is with her but she meant all of you. I would love to show her tomorrow right before she goes in to speak that she has lots of support and that she is not alone...so pls. send her your best wishes on this board. I know she will bring these warm thoughts with her to the Capital (1:oo) tomorrow.

Tess- What a awesome and strong young lady you are. Thank you so much for doing this for all of us. My daughter is 14 with OBPI. Even though we are not there in person with you, we will be cheering you on.
Best of luck and please tell us how your experience went.

This is a great effort. Perhaps this funding will allow a great advancement for treating these injuries. For a young woman to have the courage to step forward and try and do something like this is fantastic. I hope the meeting goes well!
This could shape up to be a great feature story in Outreach!!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
