In a Mother's eyes
I want to thank everyone for the support and ongoing communication that you give to each and everyone of us. This board is a place where I come to question, learn, vent, and celebrate. Today, I want to celebrate... Because of UBPN, last, Wed. for the first time ever, I had the opportunity to meet another mother of a child injured during birth. I can't explain the feeling I had when I looked at her and said, "I know how you feel". I have never been able to look at "eyes" that truly know how I feel. I felt immediately connected. I am just thankful that I had that experience.

Boy do I understand that feeling...I was 18 when I first met another person with a bpi it was increddible. You suddenly dont feel so alone anymore.
Glad you had the opportunity to meet up with some one!

Re: In a Mother's eyes
Maggie had first met someone else with BPI at camp (I met someone that had a child with BPI when she was a baby but I had lost contact with her until we came on this site), she was 5 and was so amazed at all the people that had an arm like hers.
Now we go to the support group in St Louis and Maggie absolutely loves meeting others with an arm like hers. Support is a must with this injury, because noone else knows exactly what we are feeling except others in our situation.
Glad you found someone.

I am "friends" on myspace with Lawrence (PhillyKing) and he has some awesome clips that Jojo loves to watch over and over. He says "show me that cool guy with my injury arm". I can't wait until he actually meets another BPIer

It was an amazing experience! It is hard to believe that we live so far apart, yet we are so connected by our experiences.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Re: In a Mother's eyes
As an adult who never had a correct name for my injuries until age 65 & thought I was the only one all alone, until I found UBPN I can say it is Lifechanging to have people instantly understand and when I went to Camp 2005 & met the people on here in person as well as see the children & se their eyes light up and ask me questions I began to heal my emotional hurts almost immediately. I actually had to retreat to my room at times my emotions welled up sooo unexpectedly...but then I'm old too...LOL!!
Camp 2007 was amazing too as my son went wsith me and understood even more about "differences" and how nothing can stop you from doing anything you want to do.
Please plan to atend our next Family CAMP 2010. The Mom's really had a great get-togethers and there are pleny of volunteers and activities for all ages. We have F-U-N & learn alot too.
Hugs all around,
