- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Hope
I just found out that we are eligible for early boarding on the flight.
This will help you to get your carry on in the plane without being knocked over by the crowd... LOL..
Ask the flight attendant to put your bag in the overhead.
You can arrange for this at the desk when you check in for your flight.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Re: Camp excitement
how big of a bag can you carry on? I would rather not have to deal with baggage claim.
Thanks,
Amy

if you go to the airline's website, they ususally tell you the maximum size of carry on luggage.

Re: Camp excitement
I am so excited to come to camp and I cannot believe that it is only 2 weeks away. I started school yesterday and one of my instructors was not so nice when I said I would be missing 3 days of her class. Her reply actually was "No one ever goes to a conference in the summer, always when school starts." I wasn't going to stand for that comment, so I told her exactly why I was going and she sure changed her tune. I was a bit proud of myself for sticking up for myself and everyone injured. I just hope I pass the class now. hehehe...see everyone soon.
I can't wait!!!

Rachel
Good for you!
When we learn more about our injury we are able to stand up to any negative comments.
As for passing the class, how about we write a "Thank You" note at the adult injured meeting?
We can all thank her for being so understanding and send her a patch from camp... think that's enough brownie points? lol

Re: Camp excitement
I wonder if I too will need the brownie points. I start class on the 6th and then I am missing 2 days for camp and another day the folloing week for another post surgery appointment. With all my splints I am wearing hopefully they will understand. I have not met my professors yet so I am a bit nervous.
Rachel, Way to go! As long as you do you work they should have no reason to not pass you. I hope that I can stand up to my professors if they pass a comment like that.
See you at camp!
