Yes, the wash cloth idea is great. I would even put one in the microwave for Ella so it would stay warm longer. If you do this you will find how long to leave in in after the first few times. This actually worked just as great as a bath unless she wanted to be moving around b/c then she was able to play in the tub and get those arms moving.

Hi, Karen. I'm sorry that you're having such a difficult time post-op. When you say that your child had the Mod Quad done, I assume that would mean that you went to TCH? I'm just curious b/c our daughter, Nicole, had a Mod Quad at TCH and for the first 6 weeks post-op, we were only to remove the splint daily and do a few PROM exercises -- very limited (not the entire arm) and very gentle. There was no AROM that we were supposed to do at that time -- not until the second 6 weeks when the splint was on at nighttime only. I know there have sometimes been some inconsistencies b/w post-op instructions given by the therapists vs. those given by the surgeon. I would suggest contact both areas of the hospital and determining exactly what the specific therapy protocol is at this point. Also, I would recommend calling on Monday -- do not delay. I don't want to scare you, but am concerned about the instructions you might have been given. Therapy should not be torture and even if you are told to do something by a dr., you also are the one with firsthand knowledge of how it's impacting your son. I believe that as parents, we should take into account advice given by medical professionals and weigh that to our experience as parents. I hope you get some answers very soon. -Tina, Mom to Nicole

Yes, Sam had his surgery at TCH. I did talk to his OT there and confirmed that everything that I was doing was in fact correct. He said that it was going to be painful but would get better. Today is the last day of the first 3 weeks. Sam is doing much better. He is actually moving his arm himself now and doing things that he couldn't do before. His therapy is still uncomfortable but tolerable for both he and I. Thanks for the help everyone.
