Julie, Just thought I would let you know our son's case. He is 6 yrs old and is scheduled for the acromioplasty in April. He had a 3D scan done. And he is posteriorly subluxed, has a space between the humeral head and joint, has a smaller humeral head and both the clavical and acromion are overgrown. That is what most of these kids have that are going for this surgery. Kyle had the caps done at 4 yrs. Take care.

Guest,

From what I understand and have heard from doctors who do not do this surgery, they do not see this overgrowth.
However, this overgrowth and surgery to correct has been seen in adults.
I am very curious and would be interested to figure out why the disagreement exists. My son had the acromioplasty in November and had 3D CT scan done prior. The overgrowth when pointed out is noticeable.
I also think there is disagreement between whether it will work for the long-term. From the explanation of the acromio surgery it should. The humeral head is in the correct position and this should stop the bones from a second overgrowth.
I trusted in my sons specialist and upon reviewing and researching for weeks, decided it made sense mechanically and went ahead with it.
