Re: JAS system?
Amy, how long does it take for the muscles to become fibrous and contractured? Thanks - Camille

Re: JAS system?
I am sorry Camille, I dont know the answer to that question. I can try to remember to ask my lab instructor but this is finals in there so I am not sure I will get to ask him, but if I do, I will ask and report back. I would guess it takes quite some time and depends in activity. I have always been active in softball and PE class and havent had much problem from my contracture and my muscle seems to be "pliable" and my contracture is slowly going away with the spliting, but it is much slower progress this year as compared to last year before my hand surgery that didnt allow me to wear my elbow splint for 6 months.
If any one else knows this off hand please jump in.
Hugs,

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Amy,
Is your contracture "slower" because you are getting older too, maybe???...LOL

Re: JAS system?
Carolyn,
thats most likely correct. I am also a little less athletically active. I have some issues with the girls on the softball team at my college and have chosen not to play for the college because of it. So instead I play once a week all summer on a slow pitch team with much nicer people.
I could have talked to the college coach but I just decided that it wasn't worth the trouble and while I am in college I will focus on my studies. Then have a great summer playing! Besides, my summer team appreciates me and they also let me play any position I want! How cool is that, I naver had a choice before, it was bench or outfeild. I actually like playing catcher, and confusing the ump It took my ump all summer to finally ask me why I catch and throw with my left hand, he offered me a glove for my right hand. hehe
But anyway my contracture could be slower to respond because I am getting older but it was when I was 17 when I first stareted wearing a splint and thats not even three years ago. Maybe its once you hit 20 its all donw hill? I hope not and I aim to prove that wrong.
Sitting here typing this I just realized the major difference from the first time I had my splint to now, the first time I was using e-stim on my triceps and now I am not because its pretty uncomfortable. That area of my skin is a bit hypersensitive Thats probably the biggest reason since the contractures are cause from weak triceps, strong biceps. Either way I am less active than I used to be I should probably work on that!
Thanks for asking, it made me think!
