My injury was from a car accident in 1987. At that time this surgery was experimental and not being done in the US yet. I forogt about it for years. I thought it was too long since my injury and that I couldn't be helped. I wondered over the years about going back to Mayo Clinic, but never persued it until my fiance did some research and found this site and contacted Mayo Clinic. They said that even though my injury was 19 years ago, that they still could do a free muscle transfer of the Gracillis muscle to give me elbow flexion. I still won't know for sometime if it worked, but so far, I do see a little progress in just 3 months post-op. I recommend that you speak to the brachial plexus clinic at Mayo, Drs Bishop, Spinner and Shin. Also the PA, Jim Bell was really knowledgable and helpful. They are the best! Feel free to ask, if you or your friend have any other questions.

thank you rocket ray - we will definitely speak to them. ellen mentioned you as well - you'll have been very helpful - we'll talk to mayo and thanks for mentioning the pt as well. will do our research now that we have these tips.
