Taping arm--is there a trick to getting tape off?

Hi, our OT wants to tape my daughter's arm (she's 2 months old) and I'm wondering if there's a trick to getting the tape off. He hasn't done it yet--he wants to do it at tomorrows session. He initially put a very samll 2x2 patch on her back to see if there would be any irritation and I felt so bad when I had to take it off. My poor baby cried and cried (I felt like crying too).

He plans on taping a big portion (at least that was my impression) of her arm and biceps to help turn her arm in a more neutral position. Anyhow, if anyone has any hints, tricks, etc. please please PLEASE let me know!

You can try applying a little Milk of Magnesium to the skin to be taped and let it dry thoroughly before applying the tape. This has worked very well for us.

We did taping with kinesio tape that was waterproof and never experienced this issue. We would leave it on for 3 days then remove it for 1-2 days and retape. Never once did I have trouble removing it anymore than a bandaide that had been left on for a couple days. The skin was always a little pink underneath, but the skin never broke. Maybe it's the specific tape? I don't know. I would categorize my daughter as having sensitive skin. We taped the scapula.

I use mineral oil for everything. We have never done taping, but maybe it would work for this too. Good luck with the outcome.

Hi,

When I take off tape, or electrodes, I dip my finger in water and gently lift the corner of the tape, and just moisen underside of tape/skin side, and keep working my way along untill tape is off. My therapist now uses my method. It really works!

Can someone please tell me the benefits of taping. I read an article about taping and it seemed like a really good idea. When I suggested it to the PT, she didn't think it was necessary. How can I convince her, if IIIIIIIIIIIII think it's a good idea.

We have been taping Trent's arm (6 months old ROBPI) for about a week. He has VERY sensative skin and there has been no problem getting it off. It stays on for 3 days and then off for 2 days. By the third day it is starting to come off on its own and we just pull it off. He has not had any problems so far-we are on our third round. It really comes off like a bandaid.

what kind of tape are you guys using?

We started Knisio taping about a year ago when Evan was 1.5 yrs old. I would brush on extra light olive oil (it doesn't smell and is so good for the skin)on his tape and let it soak in for at least an hour. I even left in on overnight and took it off gently right before his bath when his skin seemed really sensitive. Nowadays, his excema is much better so I can just peel it off.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I might have to try each one out to see which will work best for us. Funny thing and yet not so funny thing is when I asked our OT if he knew of any tricks to make taking the tape of easier his reply was "take it off fast". I'm on the phone thinking that's it??? Anyhow, I figured someone on here would know something better than that! Thanks a bunch!

PS. Tcon, we're using Kinesio (sp?) tape
