Re: Does anyone really spontaniously recover?
I do think that a lot of these injuries do spontaneously recover but then some do not. You didn't mention if you'd taken your baby to a PT or OT yet. My daughter has had therapy for the last two and half years since she was born and she is 80% recovered. Most people that meet her can not tell a difference in her arms and so most would say she did recover.

Hi - Chloesmom This is another mom to a Chloe
My daughter was born almost a year ago (may 2nd 04)
When we first brought her home she had spontaneous hand movement and that was it. I believed that she would get better even though the drs were saying surgery. Since we took her to PA to see a specialist she has made miraculous improvemnets. She was a butt scooter and we thought she would never crawl one day she just went. She has truly amazed us in how far she has come. (from barely a flicker to picking things up and crawling) She still hasn't recovered fully, but I am hopeful that she will continue to amaze me with the things she can do and wants to do. Don't let anyone bring you down when they start talking about the child is never going to get better this is a forever injury. Those are parents who can't see past their own anger. You continue to believe in your heart that your child can do great things (even at such a young age) and you will soon enough see how right you are.
Good luck and God Bless.

I first posted a message on the site about 6 years ago. Since then, my son who is now 6 has alomst fully recovered. It took alot of physio and dedication but now if i tell people about his birth injury, they cant even tell. Your child is still very young and yes they can spontaniously recover. Just keep doing the excerises and be dedicated. It can happen. You just have to believe this. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Its hard work, but us mothers will do anything to make it better. And remember, you are doing a great job

I hope that your doctors' are correct in their assessment of your child. My son was injured at birth, and I was told the same thing. I took his doctor's word for it. I was wrong, I should have researched more and been more aggressive. My son is now paying for my trusting nature. I am not trying to scare or discourage you in any way. But, I know you only want what is best for your child. Don't just take the doctors words for it. Always question them. After all they are essentially "working" for us, they are not doing us a "favor" by caring for our child. They are being paid for that service, and paid well, I might add. At every doctor's visit, bring it up. Seek out quailified specialists. Follow you heart.
