Hermann Children's Hospital - Texas May 2005
We will be heading to Texas again this coming May for my daughter Alyssa's 4th surgery by Dr. Nath. He will be doing the procedure at the Hermann Children's Hospital. Has anyone had any experiences there yet that they can share? I am wondering if it is the same set-up as TCH in terms of parents staying in room etc..
Alyssa will be having the Acromioplasty done. We had our 3D scans done and found out why she continues to be partially dislocated.
Is anyone going to be there at that time? Our date is May 18th for surgery, we will be arriving on the 15th to do some sight seeing and clinic before surgery.
Thanks!
Jody Gallette

I have information about Surgery at Hermann and will email you a link to it.

Jody,
I don't know anything about Hermann, but I did want to offer you some encouragement as you head down to Houston. Our son Danny had the acromioplasty with Dr. Nath last March, and that is one great surgery! It worked beautifully. We hope Alyssa will have great results, too, and that everything will go really well for all of you in May. Please let us know how it all goes!
Take care,
Janet

Hi Jody! It's Clarissa Franklin. I want to wish you and your family all the best! Demare will be at Hermann's July 21st for a series of procedures. Please let me know how everything goes and how the Hermann's staff is. I also wanted to ask you if you have any advice regarding insurance. We have Blue Cross HMO and am not sure wether or not to even try to see if they would pay for it. If not then we'll have to take the money out of his settlement and do some fundraisers. Do you have any suggestions? Hope to hear from you soon! Please e-mail when you can at clarissaf@omniteaminc.com. Hope to talk to you soon!

Hi Jody,
I wanted to offer some words of encouragement. My son Bradley also had the acromioplasty done one year ago. He is doing better than we had ever expected. His shoulder looks great, the humeral head is staying in it's proper place. The internal rotation is gone, and the arm looks much more natural. Unlike primary, or Mod Quad surgery, with the acromioplasty, the visual results of this surgery were immediate for us. I wish you and Alyssa the best of luck. She will be in good hands. If you have any more questions or concerns, please e-mail me

My daughter just had surgery at Hermann Children's Hospital last week. Please feel free to e-mail me or post your questions here regarding the hospital. The hospital is a lot smaller then TCH but it was still kid friendly. We did have a few problems but I did speak with the head of nursing this week and hopefully those issues will be resolved before others get there. Also, we did not have Dr. Nath who is are usual surgeon. He referred us to this surgeon because he had more experience in moving the trapezius muscle. I have spoke with Dr. Nath who is also addressing the few issues we had but again I believe some were due to the fact we had a new surgeon. There is a page for the hospital on Francine site: injurednewborn.com

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.
