video games
My 21 year old son was was the victum of an unprovoked attack two weeks ago while standing on the sidewalk talking on his cell phone. His left arm was almost cut off. He almost died. All nerves (including brachial plexus), arteries, veins, lymph nodes and more were completely severed. He has undergone almost 30 hours of surgery in the last two weeks. The prognosis for recovering much, if any use of his arm is poor.
One of his great pleasures, before this, was playing viddo games. Does anyone know of a one-handed video game control? His current favorite is the X-Box. Please help me find this one small pleasure for him.

Hello, im sorry to hear about the disgusting attack on your son, it must be hard to keep faith in people after that.
Anyways The PS2 can be configured any way you want so its just a case of allocating the right keys to buttons reachable and useable by one hand instead of two, dunno about the Xbox but maybe that can be reconfigured too? (most of them seem to be) - i wish you both well in at least finding the answer to his gaming!

Re: video games
I'm really sorry to hear about the attack on your son. I wish him a very speedy recovery.
With response to your one-handed controller question for the X-Box I've found this little beauty (http://us.thrustmaster.com/products/loo ... ductid=135). Not exactly a controller for ALL games but does work with the snowboarding or skate-boarding games. As you can see it comes with a one-handed controller. I'm sure this company would probably do a dedicated one handed controller. Maybe mail them.
I also thought that this device may be good to develop your son's balance once he is back on his feet. I found my balance was slightly 'off' after my accident.
This device (http://www.game-revolution.com/games/ha ... ik2000.htm) also looks very good for one-handed controlling but I'm not sure if it's available for the X-Box yet (sorry). Again you could try mailing the company who make it (VRJoy I think) directly.
I hope this is of some use. If I can be of any further help, please do not hesitate to contact me directly through my email.

I am sorry to read about the vicious attack on your son. I am glad to hear he will recover. I am not "up" on many of the videos as I play mainly on the computer. However, I will keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Good luck and Best wishes............

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.
