Searching for Support
Hi! My name is Kimmie and I am Megan's mommy. She will be three months tomorrow and was injured at birth. We are currently in a hard position, we just recently relocated from Hawaii (where she was born) to New Mexico. Hubby was military but is now out, so we are waiting for his new medical insurance to kick in. I have made contact with an Early Intervention program, so they will get something going again for us. She also has Torticollis because of her injury so we are battling two things at once. I have been looking over the message board and I am confused by all the different initials people use with their child's name. Can someone please help me? Also, I have been trying to find a support group to talk to since I have really started having a hard time with this. I've started second guessing what I could have done differently at the time of the birth so this didn't happen. I have looked and have not found anything for New Mexico. I am really in need of someone to talk to. I apologize for rambling on and on but if anyone could offer some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
Kimmie

Re: Searching for Support
First of all, this was NOT your fault and you couldn't have done anything to prevent your baby's injury. Here are a couple of examples of letters that may help you:
LOBPI- Left obstetrical brachial plexus injury
ROBPI-Right obstetrical brachial plexus injurt
TBPI-Traumatic brachial plexus injury-meaning from an accident, etc. and not occuring from birth
LOL-Laughing out loud
If there are other ones, just post them and people will gladly tell you what they mean. Post here anytime and people will help you with whatever you need. Don't ever worry about rambling on.

Re: Searching for Support
I found a support group in my area on the nbpepa.org website. On the left hand side of the page there is a link called Support Groups. I would check there. Also, please feel free to email me if you have any questions. I am NOT an expert. Just a parent with an injured child taking one day at a time. On the board when you click on a person's name if it is shown in blue you can see a profile, if they entered one. I am sure you knew that, but it took me forever to figure it out!!!
By the way my daughter Zoe is 2 1/2 with an ROBPI.
I hope you get the info and help you need.

Hi Kimmie,
My name is Shellie and I am mommy to Ashley 4.5months old who was also injured at birth (LOBPI). I am sorry for your daughter's injury, I too am struggling every day with the "what ifs" and all the guilty feelings. If you ever want to talk you can email me or I can even call you if you'd like...I live in Toronto but I have cheap rates to the states.
Take care and enjoy your beautiful baby girl
