Taste buds weak on bp side?
Taste buds weak on bp side?
Okay, this may sound silly but I have to ask. We have noticed this past month that our daughter likes salsa (not really hot, just Pace Picante mild). And then yesterday I had a french fry which I thought was still a bit warm for her mouth (she is 13 months old) but she grabbed it and was fine. So now my husband and I were wondering if maybe her taste buds aren't very sensitive. I'm sure we are stretching it but I am really surprised at how much she likes salsa. I know she can tell really cold food (by her reactions). Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I would hate to blame everything on OBPI but as we all know we have made some comparisons here and discovered we had similar quirks...
I have a problem with hot and cold on the entire right side. I can't stand any cold at all on that side of my body and what is hot feels only mildly warm... strange.
However, I love my food hot and can't stand it when my food is served cold. My husband is just the opposite he does not mind lukewarm food.
I think it is just a matter of preference not OBPI. I have Horner's and know that the inside of my cheek has diminished feeling but I don't think that has anything to do with the way I like my food.
It is so hard to decide what is directly related to this birth trauma and what is just normal preferences.

Re: Taste buds weak on bp side?
Just browsing this board, saw your post and had a little chuckle. My LOBPI is just 4 but has always had a love for hot and spicy foods from salsa to chinese food. She also loves to eat waffles frozen, not toasted. We've always thought that she has a "complex palate". hah ah ha....maybe there is something more to this...ha ha ha
Actually though, my 2 year old (non-BPI)is following in her footsteps, at least with the spicy food. It could just be I'm a terrible cook and they've both found a way to liven up their food...or they've gotten used to me being a lazy cook and ordering too much take-out!!

You made me laugh! I have been so obsessed with getting my food hot ( not sauce but temperature)my kids could care less... drove me crazy when I was preparing dinner and wanted eveyone to eat on time...
One day while making fun of me ( they had nothing better to do) they were rolling on the floor because every time we go out - I get the cold breakfast /dinner etc... LOL... it the fickle finger of fate... out to get me... LOL...
