Job Market
Re: Job Market
Kim,
I've got to chime in too.
A mother of 5!
I can't even imagine that juggling and balancing act. That's more work than any CEO of any company. It is 24/7.
I'm impressed.
Don't sell yourself short. And you will make a great nurse/midwife. You've had life experience that will bring a great deal of maturity and sensitivity to the job.
I think too that those moms and dads out there of bpi kids want to know that we have been successful in our personal lives as well. My mother was more concerned that I have a stable marriage and home than in my career (but remember I was born in the 50s).
I had one child and now two grandchildren. When the grandkids are here, the house is a whirl. I simply cannot fathom 5! Wow.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Kim,
I want to "chime" in too. You are going to make a great mid-wife. You have VERY valuable skills and life experiences that can really make a difference to parents. 5 children, I too, don't know how you and Kathleen did it all! I really blew every "gasket" I had and have with 1 son. But then we never know what strength and abilities we have until we are tried and tested. The 1 qualiity we all seem to share is tenacity.

I am right obpi and 33 years old.
I entered the university etrance exam and won the Petroleum Engineering dept when I was 18. One of my teacher had recommended that dept (What an idea!) Noone else helped me and I made the biigest mistake of my life. After attending university successfully I finished and the nightmare started. I couldn't find a job related to my profession. Unemployment has always been the biggest problem in my country. I was in depression and even considered killing myself. Because I felt like there is nothing to do in this world. Anyway I entered an exam and became an official in public sector with a little salary. My job was giving information to the tourists. After I got married I applied for English teacher job. I am still at this job. Not earning to much (between 500 and 600 USD a month) but I thank to God. There are people much worse than me. I hope your son can earn his life in good conditions...

Hi Kamren,
A nursemidwife? Wow...that would be great. I'm a RN who works L&D with a 20 month old ROBPI daughter. I've recently done an in-service for the nurses, OBGYN's, Midwives, and Pediatricians at the hospital I work at talking about BPI, including prevention which is linked to birth positions (avoid your back)! Good luck to you.
