EMG refused...to hide something???
i was told on may 18,2010 that i had a brachial plexus stretch. it would heal on its own eventually. i asked many, many times for an EMG and nerve study. i was told i did not need any nerve testing done. it would heal on its own. i called the docs office an DEMAMDED an emg NOW! not 6 months from now not whenever he felt like it or whenever. it has been over 8 months and i finally had an EMG this morning. i have a PINCHED NERVE that has caused me to lose the function in my hand. and it is from the botched surgery he performed. I AM FURIOUS. hope and pray it is not too late to fix it. and if he thinks he is going to fix it...he has another think coming!!!! he is not going to touch me again.
just letting off a little steam.

Look on the bright side, your recovery should be reasonably rapid following your corrective surgery. But, your frustration is easily understandable - best of luck with it all.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Injured 02/01/04 in snowmobile accident; recently turned 21.
Multiple facial, limb, and rib breaks. Only lasting injury is due to left brachial plexus avulsion of C6, C7, C8 & T1. C5 vertebrae fractured, allowing nerve to remain in tact. No sensation in, and minimal movement and use of left arm, except for phantom nerve pains. Whenever the pain sets in, I try to focus on the fact that God allowed me to live and be thankful He is giving me a second chance..
Two BPI related surgeries at Mayo Clinic-Rochester.
1- Right gracilus muscle transfer connected to left bicep and clavicle, intervated to allow elbow bending. Sural nerves taken from both calves for nerve grafting. Partial tibial nerve graft.
2- Fusion of Left wrist and thumb.
Cartilage removed from wrist and thumb to solidify joints with harvested bone marrow from my hip. This surgery has highly improved the functionality of my left arm.
All proper diagnoses and surgeries performed at Mayo Clinic-Rochester.
Re: EMG refused...to hide something???
I am very sorry to hear about frustrating situation. I was initially hospitalized for 17 days. When I was able to go home and meet with the local specialist, he told my dad and I to come back in six months to see if the injury gets better. It did not get better. It was his last year before he retired. He told me that I might find some young hot shot doctor that thinks he'll be able to help me, but I shouldn't get my hopes up. I went to Mayo Clinic-Rochester and had his 'hot shot' surgery, and am able to live an amazingly confident life now.
Which nerve was pinched? Have you tried the brachial plexus team at Mayo Clinic-Rochester?

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Re: EMG refused...to hide something???
it is unfortunate, to say the least. my question is how can a pinched nerve be diagnosed from an emg? i was thinking that test would determine if various nerves are functional and to what extent but that the causes of lack of function would need to be determined by other means. also how can a pinched nerve result in complete non-use of the hand? i thought there are several different nerves which all contribute to motor activity of the hand. i'm new to all this injury stuff so if my questions are stupid go easy on me. thanks
