Traveling to Boston For Surgery With Dr. Waters...HELP!!!
Hello,
We are planning to travel to see Dr. Waters at Children's Hospital Boston from Houston, TX soon so that my 3 year old daughter, Madison may have surgery for her LOBPI. I am feeling VERY anxious about traveling away from home and would love to get some advice from others who have had to travel out of state for surgery. Dr. Waters's nurse did state that she will be wearing a permanent, non-removable Statue of Liberty cast for 4 weeks after surgery. How did you travel with the cast (the flight home, car rides in car seats, etc.)? Also, how long did you stay? The nurse stated the length of time before the post-operative appointment varied from child to child, but would most likely be a few weeks to a month after surgery. Did you travel back to the Dr. who did the surgery, or did you just have the Dr. refer you to someone in your hometown? Any tips for traveling with a young child would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much!
Sara

Re: Traveling to Boston For Surgery With Dr. Waters...HELP!!!
I wish I had some advice on the travel, but I will be going through the same thing in a few months if my 4 month old Daughter has surgery. I was wondering why you are traveling to Boston to see Dr. Waters vs. Dr. Nath at TCH? Was there something particular that stood out about Dr. Waters? We are currently seeing Dr. Kozin at Shiners in Philly, but I am in upstate NY and Dr. Waters would be just as close, I am wondering if we should try to get an appointment with him before we go head with surgery with Dr. Kozin

Dr. Nath is no longer affiliated with TCH. He resigned his privileges there last July.

My daughter had surgery with Dr. Waters when she was 10 months old. We too travel from Chicago to Boston after visiting many doctors. Feel free to contact me at angelsmom26@aol.com I will be more than happy to share info on our trip. Dr. Waters is a great doctor and the surgery went great, statue of liberty cast and all. Please contact me if you need any help.
