Does anyone know if Martin Sheen has BPI?

Post by MichelleBrockwell »

I was watching a show that said Martin Sheen's left arm is 3 inches shorter than his right due to complications at birth & it got me wondering. Does anyone know anymore?

he doesn't seem to want to address it... UBPN has tried to get him involved in it and he has never replied.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Nicholas is 11 years old and his birth was complicated by a severe shoulder dystocia resulting in a severe LOBPI. He has had 5 surgeries to date with very little improvement. His left arm has never fully gained any functional use and has been completely flaccid until his last surgery. It now sits at a more natural position, but he is still unable to use his arm. However, his hand function was never limited until after his most recent surgery and is now completely limited due to an ulnar nerve entrapment. He is getting ready to have his 6th surgery in April to free the ulnar nerve from his last surgery. He is an amazing young man who never gives up on his dreams. He is my HERO!!!

It would be wonderful to find someone with celebrity status to make a public announcement about BPI.

I think it'll have to happen to some celeb baby "now" - with all these new celeb moms... they'll make a HUGE stink out of it. But I hope it never happens to them, too.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI, had surgery when I was 9- they moved muscles and tendons from one side of my arm to the other side. I can lift my arm to about my eye level, can't straigten it all the way and can't completely supinate my wrist.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

He actually spoke about it in a Readers Digest Article years ago. We all tried to contact him and no one got a response.
I guess we were not that interesting to him. He is more a political activist .... It is too bad because he could have helped but it appears he choose not to. We spoke with Sen. Dole and wrote to him but he also did not take a real interest in UBPN. He signed a few of his books etc. Sen.Dole is TBPI and when he lost the use of his unaffected arm I wrote him a long letter and did not get a response. It's a shame that none could take up the cause of all the bpi injured and help us with care and prevention.
