Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: ROBPI (My Son) Surgery with Dr Kozin (Oct 2009) @ age 4.

I don't post much, I'm lay low more but I couldn't help myself after seeing his progress. Athany had his first surgery 4 weeks ago with Dr. Kozin in Philadelphia. I couldn't begin to explain the overwhelming emotion that I felt when I seen what he was able to do so far. Dr. Kozin and his staff are such a blessing with their amazing work. It was a super tough road but well worth every sleepless night, heartache, and tear shed to see my little boy flex his muscles. Athany and all of our BPI babies are such an inspiration. Their courage is beyond words. I feel so lucky to be his mommy. I hope this helps give hope to anyone considering surgery.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

What a great post! It is so good to read about the results of surgery turning out so well. I hope that Anthany recovers quickly and gains a great ROM from it.

I am happy to Athanys Is doing good, Something that works is great news. I read good news ones from time to time just did now what they were. I do not know what the names are of so many things for operations and new treatments. But born in the 50s by 14 it was over for for help with the erbs. If you dont mine could you please tell me what limitiaon Athanys had ? Im just interested, How things have change? I am glad for you to. There is a lot of emotioal issues with erbs for the person who has it and the parents that trys to help. Good news is good for the head for sure!

No I don't mind at all he had a release and a tendon transfer. Prior to surgery he was able to lift his arm to about mid chest if he arched his back and really didn't have much movement at all. We are two days out from cast removal and he can already flex upward. His arm is still really weak and is just coming down. He still has to wear his brace for eight more weeks but even with the long road ahead we are making big steps toward the right direction. I can't wait to see where we are in six months. Even if it's just an inch I'll take it! Emotional issues is an understatement. It's these incredible kids who suffer the most DAILY and he is what motivates me to keep going, just when the stress reaches it's limit. Without his tremendous spirit I don't know if I could do it.
