Any1 interested in triying to orgenise a U.K camp?is it possible?
Hey everyone i am just wundering if there would be enough people in the U.K to maybe do sponsered walkes or something along that lines to try and raise funds for a U.K camp and if everyone makes a lot of money way more than is needed for the camp or even a little that it could be donated towards research of the BP and it would be good to try and get a lot of U.K people together and have a bit of fun and get us all in contact. Is this a stupid idea or is it possible let me know?

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

The tbpi uk group have had two annual meetings so far, at Lizzy B's house (which I can assure you in no way resembles a camp-good local pub too!) but as numbers grow I think the meetings will be in bigger venues.
One of our members is thinking of a sponsored climb up Ben Nevis (dunno how near that is to John O Groats but its a damn sight nearer than NZ!) here's a thread on the uk group message board about it http://pub28.ezboard.com/fadultswithbra ... =416.topic hope that works.....

thanks jennyb i was just wundering about the meetings because it seems to be a big thing in America and i would love to travel to the next camp but i would cost a very large amount of money to get to the camp and back but i think i will start saving my money now and travel next year. I am definatly going to try and go to lizzy B's this year if she is having a meeting because up were i live noone has even heard of a BPI

Hi Anna i am triying my best to get people intersted in the idea and if we get it going i would like it to be held around the middle of the U.K so that everyone from the south only have half way to travel and like me i have half way to travel because i am from john o groats (very top of scotland) and i would like it to be for everyone of all TBPI and OBPI ages and family/friends because the more people we get interested the more chance it has of becoming a more common thing and maybe we can orgonize one every year. Maybe i am a bit ahead of myself but you never know

Kevin..... sometimes there are REALLY good sales on travel from UK to USA..... I've noted airfare costs from there to here that are sometimes cheaper than for me to go to Texas!! (my cousins come in two times a year on the cheapie rates)
So keep your eye on it - if you came to the one in the USA - then you could see how things were done and you'd have some experience to go back home and plan one for your group.....

yeah i would love to come over to America and if there are cheap flights to America what airport is closest to the camp?the other thing is i would have to fly from where i live to aberdeen then from aberdeen to london which would cost me 100 at least going one way then i have the flight to America but if it ends up cheaper than i thought then i just might come.......and i am not a member of any group yet i have only had my injury 10 months and just found this site 1 month ago and never had any BPI sites before that so im just another guy in the croud but i am hoping to get BPI's better known up here where i live and maybe give U.K people an option if they cant afford to travel to America which i think i am going to be unable to do but i will try

Hiya Andy...and especially all other Scottish TBPI/OBPI; we are making plans to do a sponsored walk (should that be climb??) up Ben Nevis sometime later in the year..(jen has mentioned it on here already)One of the TBPI U.K. members has promised to organise it for us...it should be a larff! I've offered to stay on the lowest bits of the Ben to look after the food etc...well, someone has to!!! It'll probly be a whole weekend thing, so, who is up for it then?? :0)

I thihnk the cheapest selection you will find will come into JFK Airport in New York City...and then from there you can switch to a smaller flight that will go to upstate NY or to Vermont.
Re: Any1 interested in triying to orgenise a U.K camp?is it possible?
Liz is the walk jst for fun or is it a sponsored walk to raise funds. I would b interested in doing it!
I think the camp idea sounds fun! I went busking for charity and raised £120 in 2 hours ... any other musicians out there?
There is so many things we could do to raise money!
I totally love the idea. I have looked up flights and i got a figure of £565 to JFK! I cannot afford that! and that would b ontop of how much it costs for the camp itself!
UK it is then!
