Adhesive Removal for taping
Hello..my son is now 5 1/2 months and we have been taping his shoulder due to subluxation. It has been difficult to remove his tape. We have tried baby oil, lotion, and vegetable oil. It works a little, but it still leaves him red and very irritated when we remove the tape. I have been looking at adhesive removal online and want to know what some of you have tried?
Thanks!
Thanks!

We use Detachol adhesive remover. It makes it much easier to remove the tape. They tape my son for the same thing as yours, and also for external rotation. It's 2 separate pieces of tape. He has very sensative skin, so we still have issues, but the remover does make it easier to get the tape off. He had to go for almost a month with no tape because of the rash it left on his arm, they taped on Thursday and it's right back to being all red, only left the tape on for 3 days. But this remover does help a lot, it's a liquid. We soak the tape with it, then put it on a cotton ball and it takes the adhesive right off. Our therapist gave us a bottle to try, it lasts for quite a few removals.

Thank you for your response. What do you use for the rash? How old is your son?
Re: Adhesive Removal for taping
If your son is getting a rash from the tape, he may have developed a sensitivity to the adhesive. Joshua had this and we had to stop taping him, it only got worse as time went on. The last round you could see the skin elevating and swelling in between the strips of tape and he had ulcerated skin after we took the tape off.

My 4-month old also gets tape on her arm and her scapula. I had pretty good success at getting the tape off last week. I gave her a bath to get the tape wet, then used mineral oil, applying it to her back and the bandage as I SLOWLY peeled the tape away, and there was no residual adhesive, except where one corner of the protective tape has frayed. Her skin was a little red (this was at 7pm), but at 7am, there was no redness. I know some children have more sensative skin than others, so I don't know whether this would be successful with your son, but I wanted to share just in case. Also, there is another post on here about skin barrier spray and wipes to use before the adhesive. The links to the site are: http://www.bandagesplus.com/prodmain.ph ... &xProd=939

Best of luck with the taping.

My son is 9 months now. They have been taping him for several months now. The pediatrician told us to try cortisone for the rash. It doesn't seem to bother him, but they can't tape again until it goes away. His dermatologist gave us some prescription samples, but once he gets a rash, it takes a long time for it to go away.

Good luck with this issue as we have the same problem. Taped well at first no problems and as someone else said it progressively got worse with redness , excoriation, swelling around tape. We have to give up. Milk of Mag didn't really help. We did the McKee which helped at first and then it stopped working for her. When the child is a year you can ask about e-stim which has really helped alot. Also have done the ARK brace but she out grew it and we are re-eval what she needs now. I really wish we could tape as well. But sometimes you have to throw in the towel if they are really too sensitive.
