3 year old daughter with Erb's palsy

We live in the north part of Alabama. We have a daughter that will be 4 in June. She has not had any type of surgery for her injury. We adopted our daughter from an Asian country at 27 months. So she did not have early medical care for her condition.

We have seen two orthopedics and done OT/PT. To this point I just don't feel like the drs/therapist really know what they are doing.

We have an appointment with Dr Waters in July. Does anyone know of any place else that works with children her age that you would recommend?

Hello! I am sorry to hear about your daughter. The doctor that my son sees, Dr. Gregory Borchel at St. Louis Children's hospital is great and he gets you in immediately. I don't know what the drive would be like for you from Alabama to St. Louis, but he is an excellent doctor. Here is his webpage.

Thank you for responding mamaoftwo. Does doctor Borchel have many erb's palsy patients? What I have run into here is that the orthopedic doctors haven't seen but 2 or 3 patients in their career. I much prefer a doctor that has seen many patients with this condition.

I am not sure exactly how many patients he has seen. I know that he is very knowledgable with Brachial Plexus injuries. He is a plastic surgeon and has been recognized for his research with nerves. He does an excellent job with explaining. I suggest calling on Monday and talking with his assistant, Carrie. She is extremely nice and can get any questions answered that you may have.

Oh, and you definitely don't want to see anyone other than a Brachial Plexus Injury specialist. This type of injury is way too complicated.

may I suggest that you also get the opinion of a neurosurgeon. They seem to know about bpi.

I live in Alabama as well, but in Central Alabama. However, I am from North Alabama! My son goes to the Cincinnati Children's Brachial Plexus Clinic and we've been really pleased so far. He's had one surgery and several follow up visits. He's 11 months old but they work with children of all ages.

We drove there from North Alabama, Huntsville, and it wasn't too bad. I think it took us around 7 or 8 hours but we were traveling with a 3 month old at the time and had to do alot of stopping! Cincinnati is an expensive place to fly into but we have purchased reasonable tickets into Dayton and the drive is only 45 minutes from the airport to the hospital. Also, the hospital will pick you up.

Sadly enough, we also went to Children's in Birmingham before Cincinnati and were really disappointed. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions...brookepoague@yahoo.com
