my son Ayoub

My son Ayoub suffered a brachial plexus injury at birth on February, 21,2008 due to excessive pulling here in Algeria-N.Africa. My son and husband are both US citizens and am looking forward to come to US for his treatment since they don't have good specialist here.

I just want to know, can he really recover on his own, what are the signs of recovery? My son moves his fingers little bit and shoulder but his elbow doesn't move.Did any parents here whose child recovered on his own without surgery?

Am so depressed about this but all i can do is try as much as I can to find help for him. Am so glad to know am not alone and am sure most of u know how i feel, i don't have to explain.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. My son Malik had a traumatic birth also. My son has had one surgery and still isnt fully recovered. The doctors have said that it will NEVER fully and completely heal. There will always be a difference. It is hard to deal with, it is hard to watch your child who was sooooo perfect in your womb get an injury that could have been prevented. I understand your situation and I hope that if you need some support you are finding it here! This is a wonderful place to post your questions as well as your accomplishments. I am proud to say that my son is now playing with his toes and trying to walk! He is 11 months old now and we are seeing some changes in the way that he is functioning. I attribute that however to weekly Physical and Occupational Therapy and that I stay home with him to make sure that he is getting all of the therapy daily as well. Make sure you keep up with the range of motion exercises

We definitely know how you feel. I was so sad after my son was born. That was definitely the hardest time of my life. There were a couple of mom's on this website that really helped me get through that time just by listening. I knew they "got it" and I didn't have to explain everything like I did with family and friends. I also felt like I could express my fears here, with friends and family, I felt like I needed to be strong and keep a positive spin on it. We all know what you are going through and are glad to listen to your fears and questions. I'm sorry that you need us, but we are here for you!

yes am origionally from East Africa. My mom is pure white russian and my father is pure Black Tanzanian(east africa).Am mixed race.

I was born in Russia but I left Russioa since 5years old and grew up in Tanzania. Both my parents live in Tanzania.I live in USA since 2002 but at the moment am in Algeria(my husbands parents are algerians in Algeria) visiting. My husband is an American but Algerian origion.
