Tendon Tightening surgery

Post by Jazzy »

My daughter has been to texas for surgery twice once at 3 months old and 18 months for the mod quad and is now going back for her third (tendon tightening surgery) to allow her hand to open and for her to be able to use her fingers. Has anyone had this done on their child or know anything about the results? My daughter is 3 1/2 and we are going to TCH in 2 weeks.
I would love any feedback. Thank you.

My daughter hasn't had this done.... just wanted to pop in and wish you luck on this next surgery. Hope all goes well and safe journey, too.

I was just wondering if your daughter has any use of her hand at this point. My daughter is 16 months old and had the primary surgery at 5 1/2 months old and the mod quad recently at 13 1/2 months old. Her hand is weak and she can only hold onto light objects for a short period of time. When she does hold something her wrist flexes down. (Her extensors are weak.) Also, if she trys to bear weight on her arm (which isn't very much anymore) her wrist usually bends (hand goes under) so I know that she is stretching the tendons in the wrist. Just curious. Thanks. My child has not had this surgery, because thankfully his hand function is quite good. My friends son had a tendon transfer ( i am not sure if it is exactly the same surgery) which increased his hand function and allowed him to open and close his hand voluntarily for the first time. He was 7 years old when he had this done. She was delighted with the results.
Good Luck!

My daughter can bend her wrist to extend her fingers and grasp a piece of food but letting go and pointing and hand clapping she cannot do. She cries because she cannot clap her hands and that hurts the most. Her hand goes under and it sounds like what we are going thru is similar to yours, I pray this surgery will allow her the happiness to clap in school with her friends and do the things she so desires to do. my daughter had c5,c6,c7 ruptured and t1 damaged, how about yours?

My daughter can open her hand if her wrist is bent and function for her is grasp but not being able to let go or point or clap her hands, which hurts the most. She wants badly to clap at school with her friends and that is so tough. It sounds like you have the same problems we had and have. my daughter has c5,c6,c7 ruptured and t1 damaged, how about your daughter?
