Dr. Waters
Dr. Waters
My daugther is 11 yrs old. Left arm global brachial plexus. I was wondering if Dr. Waters see them at this age. I read his web site and it seemed that he can only help the kids when they are infants or toddlers. We are late starters because no one ever told me that there was help out there when she was an infant. We are currently seeing Dr. Kozin. I was gonna ask him when we see him on June 1st if he thought an evaluation by Dr. Waters my be beneficial. My daughter wings really bad and I would like to have that looked at but I'm just not sure who to go to for that either. Any info would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks,
Jana

Re: Dr. Waters
Hi, my daughter is 5 years old, and sees Dr. Waters regularly. In answer to your question, he just told us that there is another procedure he can perform, but he would not do it until she was at least nine or ten. So from that it would appear that he is able to help older children as well.
Hope that helps a little!

He sees any kids-11 would not be an issues. He just doesn't treat adults
Re: Dr. Waters
Hi there! My daughter also sees Dr. Waters, and before her surgery, he had told us that he had just performed surgery for a 21 year old...so I think he sees all ages. I hope this helps :^)

From his questionaire response:
Indicate the total number of brachial plexus patients you/your clinic has evaluated since your establishment:
There are more than 400 patients a year with birth palsies seen and cared for. The number of children seen for traumatic injuries is less.
At this stage I only see children and young adults through graduate school age with brachial plexus palsies. Otherwise I refer to the adult hand surgery service at the Brigham and Women's Hospital or Massachusetts General Hospital for older adults.

Jana:
The short answer is YES, Dr. Waters sees "kids" of all ages.
Go to the medical resourse page on this website, it has all of his contact information, plus a questionaire that he filled out that will answer some of your questions.
good luck,
claudia
ps. he is responsive to emails.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Hi! I am Laura, the mom of Tyler, who has a ROBPI. I've been a member of this site since 1998 and owe a great deal to the wonderful people in the UBPN community who have helped us along the way get what we needed to get done for Tyler. Tyler is now 14 years old and in the 9th grade. He's a super bright kid and loves his video games. Tyler had the mod quad surgery with Dr. Shenaq shortly before he passed. That was his first and only surgery. Now that he is older he is requesting additional surgery. He'd like to be able to supinate. Our goal is for Summer 2013.

I think there's info for him somewhere on this site. We're seeing him soon so I know he's through Boston Children's and has a satellite in Waltham (which was faster to get in to see him). He does have a website so do a search and you find him. I think it's like childrenshospital.org or something like that. Good luck!
