starting the search over

Post by parent needing help »

We are so saddened by the death of Dr. Shenaq and feel as though we have lost a member of the family. BUT we are still faced with needing ongoing OBPI care. I did this search 7 years ago and chose the TCH team. I am surely having a hard time looking at this again and would appreciate everyone's help.

This is not to ask you to bash one Dr. over another, just please tell me who you go to and why you LIKE them, I don't much want to start a war so I don't need to know why you DON'T like the others unless you want to private mail me and I think the email address on here is wrong so I will post one at the bottom of this. I just need to start my research. I don't want to, it feels like a betrayal to Dr. Shenaq but I know he would understand.

I am on the East Coast and obviously don't mind traveling to the West Coast. I have to say, our girl is close to having a birthday and this is bringing back the memories of her birth like an elephant gone wild in the jungle--I am crashing physically and emotionally beyond words. One would think it got easier after all of these years. NOT!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi my name is Corrine and I have a son Matthew who has had the primary and the mod quad at TCH. Dr.Nath and Dr. Laurent did those two surgerys. Since TCH doesn't have a bpi clinic anymore, Dr. Nath has his own practice for bpi still in Houston. Matthew still needs more surgerys and we will still use Dr. Nath because he has always told us up front what has to be done for Matthew to give him the best chances for the most recovery for his arm. When ever I had a question, I would e-mail Dr.Nath and he always made time to answer me back, if not that day then the next one. Matthew will need a tendion transfer for his next surgery and we will be going to Dr.Nath for that one. I have also have delt with Dr.Kozen in Philly at the shriners hospital. He is also an excellent doctor. He is a bpi and hand specialist. He has called me personely when he has had a question that he needed answered about Matthew.I would go to and trust either one of these doctors with my son. Good luck with your search, I hope this helps a little. If you have any more questions you can e-mail me at Jags1420@yahoo.com

We like DR. Waters in Boston. He has been honest upfront and realistic. He likes to focus on what my daughter can do, and does not set limits. He is well respected by peers, widely published and is one of the leads on an international team researching timing of surgical interventions.

We have seen him for over 9 years. My daughter had surgery around 2 yo. Has done very well.

Recommend without hesitation.

My daughter see's Dr Bae at Boston Childrens. He's a colege of Dr. Waters. Dr. Bae is awsome. He' a lot like Dr Water's where he focus on what the child can do instead of what they cant. I would highly recomend him to anyone with a child with a brachial plexus injury.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Hi! I am Laura, the mom of Tyler, who has a ROBPI. I've been a member of this site since 1998 and owe a great deal to the wonderful people in the UBPN community who have helped us along the way get what we needed to get done for Tyler. Tyler is now 14 years old and in the 9th grade. He's a super bright kid and loves his video games. Tyler had the mod quad surgery with Dr. Shenaq shortly before he passed. That was his first and only surgery. Now that he is older he is requesting additional surgery. He'd like to be able to supinate. Our goal is for Summer 2013.

Does anyone have the contact info for Dr. Nath? I am also in the same position, as Dr. Shenaq was also my son's one and only dr. for BPI. Thanks!

I have met with Dr. Kozin and he is a great doctor. He treated me with excelence! No sugar coating, he told me up front my options at the time. He was so caring and compassionate but he is not my main doctor, if I lived closer he would be. But I live in MN and have an excellent doctor, Dr Moran. I know he has several bpi patients but I am probably his oldest at shriners since I am 20 years old. He works closely withthe bpi team at Mayo and has done a great amount of research on bpis. I would reccommend either in a heartbeat!
Both are great doctors that have treated me with nothing but respect!
