EARLY ADMISSION TO SCHOOL THROUGH EIP IN FLORIDA?
WE MAY BE QUALIFIED FOR ADMISSION TO ELEMENTARY THROUGH THE E.I.P. OF FLORIDA. IS ANYONE IN THIS? AND, HOW DO THEY LIKE IT? MY SON IS 3. I WANT WHAT IS BEST FOR HIM! IF HE WENT TO SCHOOL I COULD START JOB THAT USES THE DEGREE I HAVE BEEN NOT USING BUT STILL PAYING FOR IT! FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, WE ALL KNOW THAT RIGHT!

Do you mean an IEP? I am an Exceptional Student Education teacher at an elementary school and have to write IEP's all the time. My son, Tyler, is 4 with a right OBPI. I enrolled him at 3 in a Pre-k ESE class at my school for about the same reason you mentioned. He is here with me and recieves OT services at school (which is also wonderful). If you are interested in having your child in an ESE Pre-k program, you should call the ESE director at your counties school board and discuss his enrollment. A warning though-it can be a bit of a fight to prove that a brachial plexus injury can cause a child to have delays in school- BUT IT CAN! (motor skills) You can email me if you have any questions.

we had the director come to our house. i was so nice to her. first thing i did when we answered the door is ask my son to tell her his name. he cannot say it so i knew that she could see his delay. i practice every day of course. somehow i convinced her to early admit him to the school. they also told us to apply to ssi and their evals usually overide the government's evaluator? i am not sure. i am so stressed out from everything involved in this injury. we have not even tried that. i am even wondering how to apply b/c we are in a lawsuit right now. i will ask them?
back to the program and it is early intervention program, and i would suggest everyone starting now at 3. i read about the school systems of how hard it is to get the help for our children. i save every report, eval , i save it alll!!!! i had all his records, and she helped us! she went out of her way i think maybe, b/c i have bent over backwards proving his strengths and weaknesses. and now i feel i can finally relax!!!!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

"legal",
You did a great job,MOM!!! Don't relax too much, as your advocacy work for your son's education life/years is just starting.[after each "encounter" I called it "regrouping"... We are all here remember, for support and venting.
FYI,BP Injuries are NEUROLOGICAL Injuries and thats why OBPI Children often have delays in 1 or 2 developemental areas. Delays in Speech as well as "Motor" are very common.

Re: EARLY ADMISSION TO SCHOOL THROUGH EIP IN FLORIDA?
Hi my son Matthew is 4 and so far I have not sent him to school. As far as Ican see he is doing fine with motor skills and the abc's and his other learning skills that I do with him.Matthew has a rbpi. He does not seem to have any other trouble that I can see right now. Do I have to put him into an ese class? He should have been a righty but because of the injury he will be a lefty. Thats a little tricky because of me being a righty. The only thing I worry about is if his shoulder comes out of the socket. Also when he does go to school about other kids and him running around and being kids. Matt is a very active, tipical 4year old. We live on the east side of Fla. Any info would be great. Thanks
