Has anyone been told they DO NOT need Triangle Tilt?
I was wondering if anyone with a child over 2 years old has seen Dr. Nath and NOT been told they need Triangle Tilt. It just seems like every time I read posts, there is another child who is scheduled for it or has been told they need it.
It has also been recommended for our child and we are in the process of deciding whether to go ahead with it. It makes the decision difficult if he is telling everyone he sees that they need this surgery.
This is a genuine concern I have. I am not trying to start anything or make any accusations. I would really like to know, as it would help in our decision making process.

Re: Has anyone been told they DO NOT need Triangle Tilt?
we have been told that our child has pretty much needed every surgery. i think your question is well intended and i can understand your possible concerns. it seems that most i know have also been recommended to have this particular surgery, but i personally have a friend whose child has previously had the mod quad and so far has been told he does not need the triangle tilt. i strongly support getting second or third opinions and then just follow your heart. i do not believe any doctor out there has the magic surgery at this point in time and so much needs to be learned and these children need to be followed up for some time to come. i think it is wise to question all surgeries recommended by any doctor. i also feel that educating yourself and following your inner voice is what will lead us in the right direction. i sure hope that people are mature regarding this post. i sense you are genuine and i think mature adults should be able to respectfully converse on such topics. i would hope we are more concerned about supporting each other (whatever that may be) than feeling a duty to support any particular surgery or doctor.

Dr. Nath has been our specialist since my son's birth. He had two surgeries - primary and mod quad/caps.
Nath has told us on 3 occasions now(We see him every 4-6 months)we did not need TT.

Dr. Nath has also seen my son since birth also. We were told that he did not need triangle tilt, although I thought my son might be a candidate. We see him every year at least

I 100% understand your concerns. A few yrs ago, I felt that Dr. Nath suggested Mod Quad to everyone he saw. Now it maybe the TT. When he saw our daughter last year for the sencond time ever, he was shocked that she had such a good recovery without surgery, and he seemed to forget that he was very eager to perform Mod Quad whej she was 10months. But in his defense, he said he wouldnt suggest TT now but if things became a problem or she regressed, it could be an option in the future. I wouldnt rush into TT, from what he said, this surgery could be done up until 8 or so (dont quote me)

Matt's Dad,
I thought your child already had the acromioplasty (pre-cursor to the triangle tilt). That should explain why he hasn't recommended the triangle tilt in your child's case... shouldn't it?

Dr Nath has done primary, modquad, capsulodesis (Davino did humeral and forearm osteotomy) for Blake. He at first recommended TT via email and phone conversations and wanted MRI sent to him, but we saw him in person 6 months after that and he said no triangle tilt. I totally trust that he has our childrens' best interests at heart. I do see your point, though.

Kate,
You know my son had acromio. Let's not play games.
And no it does not explain why he hasn't had TT. They are separate procedures.
Dr. Nath wanted to see the scans because he thought Matt had some winging. Scans showed differently - Nath recommended no surgery.
Could Matt be a candidate in the future? Of course.

Bernie,
The transition between the triangle tilt and the acromioplasty has always been quite confusing to me. Do you know *when* Dr. Nath stopped doing acromioplasty and started doing triangle tilt?

My daughter, Samantha, is now 11years old and this is the first we have heard of the triangle tilt surgery. I have researched every treatment possible to fix Samantha's arm. She has had nerve transfers and muscle releases at age 3 and 4. Therapy was started at 2 days old and stopped when she was 7 years old. She has broken her erb's palsy arm 2 times, and her ankle 3 times (being off balance)from crooked posture.
I can tell you from experience that I am a nurse and am amazed at the surgery dr. nath does. The Triangle Tilt Surgery is a miracle at the results it provides. I wish I new about this surgery when Samantha was a toddler, it would have saved all the pain and suffering we have endered.
Samantha is scheduled for her Triangle Tilt Surgery with Dr. Nath on April 20, 2006. I will keep in touch and let you know the outcome.
I sincerely believe you should have this surgery done, it is a miracle
