With any surgery, you chance losing something.
You have to weigh the good and bad. A corrected scapula and shoulder would outweigh losing some overhead.
We have had 2 surgeries with Dr. Nath. Our son has experienced nothing but incredible gains.

And a 10% chance sounds rather high. I have never heard Dr. Nath give a number in regards to surgery and our son.

Hi,

My daughter had the TT back in May 2005. When the splint was removed she of course had weakness and did not have much of a range. After 8 months she now has 110 degrees overhead range and is doing it with the right muscles - not compensating. The TT has done wonders for her in so many ways!

Good luck on your decision.

My daughter, Alyssa, who is 10, had the triangle tilt done last June. She was very weak after being splinted for so long, but is gaining more of the movements She had before. She can fully pronate and her OT says in time she will be able to fully supinate. She is almost there! Plus, she is able to do something she was never able to do before the TT. SHe can put her hand on her hip, behind her back and in her back pocket!

The only way to find out abouit other surgeries out there is to go to other doctors and ask. Dr Kozin at Shriners PA and Dr Waters in Boston are both doing other surgeries and are both participating in an international study to compare results to work out what works best. If the surgery isn't time sensitive it would be a good idea to check them out. I would never schedule surgery with out at least 2 other opinions, that way you can tell yourself you looked at every option, including as another poster said, no surgery.
Good luck with your decisions.
