- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Re: HERRRRO!!
yea, thanks a lot. i haven't had time to check it out that much. umm, yes, after having my accident family was even more important to me than before. although i found that it hurt me rather than help me trying to please them. i also found that it was time for me; not the 20 different clients my business tended to. i dropped everything and stopped everything. bills, work, and everything i knew that was normal. at this point in my life everything wasn't picture perfect as you may imagine. i really didn't want to accept my new born self for the first year. during this time i used various drugs at one point spending $3,000 a month. Anyhow, to make this short, i moved to the drug capital of the world for a few months where i was able to resist temptation and lay to rest a dirty habit for good. ryan
i would have emailed this to you although your profile doesn't show an address. :0)

Re: HERRRRO!!
how has it changed your view on life?
Re: HERRRRO!!
Hey Ryan
I was born with it so it hasn't changed much. But I just found out that a was not just a weirdo, and I have a actual disablity.
I used drugs and I drinked alot in High School because I knew a was different but everyone told me it was in my head. I used those as coverups. I just found out last week that the condition I have is Called Erb's. I am tring to box,Because most people say I can't. The left hook is funny lookin', and my brain takes abit longer to tell my BPI side arm to throw. But I am pretty good for a one arm cripple. If you still want to fight, work doubly hard on your Bpi side; and walk everywhere to improve your balance,(if you can't hardly walk straight like me!) Keep fighting in everything you do!
Good luck
Luke
