Having another child after BPI with 1st
I am pregenant with our second child. Just curious as to how many people delivered vaginally vs. c-section when your first child had BPI.
On another note, I hope you guys get a laugh out of this. My daughter is 3. We explained to her that I was pregenant and that the baby was in my tummy. She comes up to me the other night, and says "hold still this might hurt a little" I look at her and say "What are you talking about" She procedes to tell me that she is going to put the flashlight up my bottom so she can see the baby!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

That is so hilarious! I love stories like that! I had a scheduled C-Section with my second baby. It definately wasn't as bad or painful as I thought it would be. It was the right decision for us. I didn't feel like I had to worry the whole time that mt baby would have a BPI like his sister does. Good Luck with your pregnancy and decision making. It is a hard decision, I know, but do what feels right and best for you and your family.

Hello Cara,
Congradulations on your second. My son was my first and he is LBPI. He was 9lb 9oz 22 inches long. His apagar was 1, had head injury, hardly breathing. I had 3 degree tear in hospital for 7 days. For my daughter, (Second baby) I did a planned C section. She was born at 39 weeks and was 9lb 3oz, 19 inches. Her apagar score was a 9. No problems what so ever. I stayed in the hospital four days (less than the my first which was not a c section). This was much much easier than my son. Recovery was easier too. The first week was a little rough but with pain med and help from family it went ok. All in all I was grateful that we chose the C section. Good luck.

Cara,
This story is priceless, thanks for sharing. Will have to send this one up to Anchorage to the clinic I worked at while we lived there. The doctors and nurses will love it.
Best to you on your new addition to the family. I had two c-sections and am really glad I did. Of course now Ryan has a TBPI from a motorcycle accident.
Take care,
Karen

Re: Having another child after BPI with 1st
Cara,
We are not pregnant yet but are planning to be in the next few months. I have already decided against the c-section but have also decided to deliver at a birth center with a team consisting of an OB, midwife, midwife apprentice and doula. We will not be using any pain medication and I strongly believe that no meds combined with the knowledge of midwives and the calming atmosphere of being outside a hospital, we will have different results. If any problems develop or it looks like my delivery is progressing into a dystocia, the hospital is 3 minutes away. This is drastically different than my first experience of risk of cord prolapse, being forced to lie down while laboring, pitocin, epidural, EFM and ultimately a vaccum assisted birth for an 8lb baby. It was a scary decision but there is too much info out there that tells me our BPI was more a result of outside circumstances than nature. Good luck in your decision. I hope you come to peace with whatever method of delivery you choose!

Re: Having another child after BPI with 1st
Great story! I had a planned c-section just this June with my 4th baby. Our 3rd child LOBPI, she was 10 lbs. 10 oz. Having a c-section was an automatic yes decision for us. Never having a c before I was very nervous. Our son, 4th baby was 9 lbs. 3 oz. - everything went beautifully. I did cry during the entire delivery and didn't stop until the doctor told me both of his arms were ok. The recovery was so much easier. Best of luck to you and enjoy every moment of your pregnancy.

I had a c-section with my second (first 9lb 13oz lobpi) and it was a much better experience than my first delivery. 2nd was 9lb, 9oz 3 weeks early so I am so thankful that we choose a c-section. good luck

Great story, Cara!
My second was LOBPI - and my third was a C-section. I was advised to do it that way to reduce the risk of another BPI. It worked out great!

Re: Having another child after BPI with 1st
Great Story! My daughter (RBPI) was also three when I was pregnant last year with my son. I had a C-Section and by the 37th week was having terrible nightmares about the baby getting stuck. My doctor did the C-Section, per my request, early. It was a walk down a country lane compared to the first time around. And my son was perfect!!!!!!! To this day he has never even had an ear infection or cold. Not that that has anything to do with the C-Section but I told my husband if we had another child I could not even stand a hangnail with this one.
