no primary- Botox?

Post by tgiesler »

Robert just had his first eval with Dr. Van Heest and Dr. Partington. They both believe he doesn't need primary surgery, because he has gained som elbow flexion. He can get to neutral, but still do not have full supination. They briefly mentioned the possibility of doing BOTOX injection if we do not see an improvment after his EMG's. What can you tell me about BOTOX?

there was recently a bit of discussion about botox on my message board... http://www.injurednewborn.com/maia/homepage.html
when you get into the message board go to SEARCH and type in Botox and it'll bring it all up.

My son had Botox injections about one month ago. It is very common where I am from and the doctors here have a lot of experience with it. Unfortunately for my son it did not work, but I have talked to MANY parents whose children have had it done and have had incredible and positive results. Sometimes they try it a second time, but in my sons case he had a slight reaction to the actual Botox and is no longer a candidate. If you have specific questions i can help you out to the best of my ability. It is worth a try and such an easy procedure. We scheduled the EMG and Botox at the same time so my son wouldn't have to go through sedation twice. He did great.

Do you doctor at Gillette in Minneapolis? We too are seeing Dr. Vanheest and Dr. Parington. My little girl is 10 1/2 months and has not needed primary. There was a time when they talked to us about botox but then decided against it but haven't ruled it out for the future. She has great passive range of motion (we can move the arm in all postions) and her muscles aren't tight). If you are from MN I would love to talk to you more, my e-mail is blades01@localnte.com. Good luck with everything ~ Tara (mom to Ava ROBPI)
