Axillary nerve graph
Axillary nerve graph
Not altogether sure that I qualify. Axillary nerve is part of brachial plexus. I fell 200ft down a mountain at easter and subsequently had major surgery to re-attached rotator cuff, most of it torn away. Extensive damage to shoulder though fortunately no broken bones. Dislocation of shoulder and biceps which also tore other muscles. Surgery included pinning and graft to replace some 3 cm of the axillary nerve. Prognosis 10 to 12 months for nerve to re-grow then intensive physio to regain use of deltoid which has not function at all at present. I was told this was one stage down from motorcyclists coming off at high speed for which I am grateful as what i have at the moment is quite discomfort enough thank you.
Treatment was delayed 8 weeks at which timeI refered myself to Royal National Orthopeadic Hospital who have been great. As a Medical Herbalist I am using herbs to help recovery and we have a pulley system rigged up in the hall so I can do passive movement. Variable sensation today began as an ant crawling day which developed into elephants with hob-nail boots and large pincers. From my reading this is par for the course. What I would be interested in is what other treatments people use. Other than drugs. Are there folk out there with experience of using herbs for this sort of injury? If so what? Thanks in anticipation. Susan Allshorn

Re: Axillary nerve graph
Hi, i think you qualify! There sure are several various routes for folks to end up here. I had the rotator cuff surgery in St James Leeds 2 years ago and wanted to get max healing of everything so made sure I took plenty of fishoil and vitamin supplements (even quit drinking and smoking a few months, didnt last!) and was advised aloe vera supplement would be good for general health, but my stomach disagreed with it. As you're a medical herbalist could you recommend anything to promote healing and maybe calm nerve pain? Thanks and good luck!
