new to the forum!! confused and need help
Hi..am really glad i found this forum...my son 2 n half months old is a lobpi..he has good grasp and lifts his arm straight up since birth...now he has got abduction as well...but no elbow flexion yet! the specialist who i am seeing since birth has recommended nerve graft surgery as soon as he completes 3 months..he says sooner the surgery, better the outcome. i wanted to take another opinion..i met this other specialist who has worked closely with Dr.Nath..he says lets wait till 6 months n see how he progresses..he wants to give botox first to help his biceps..and if that doesnt work, then go for a surgery(all this after 6 months)...as a mom, i would definitely want to avoid the surgery and try this botox...but i also hear the chances of botox working is very less..also botox wont work if the nerves are ruptured...so m really confused..i hope he gains elbow flexion within a month or 2 and progresses well without all this!

Re: new to the forum!! confused and need help
Hi. My son who is now 8 had about 5-6 rounds of botox and his nerves were not ruptured. I do believe that it did help to strengthen the weaker muscles and he was able to have elbow flexion. I do suggest that you get as many medical opinions as possible. The first doctor we saw also wanted to do nerve grafts, but after speaking to 3 more doctors, they all agreed that this was overkill. He did have 2 surgeries, the ACR and the muscle/tendon transfer with Dr. Kozin in Philly. I also suggest you find an occupational therapist that is familiar with the injury and get him going on therapy right away. Good luck and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions.

This is another Great post,
So I am thinking , with birth erbs in the 50s
Getting as much grasp as you can will help The good arm can reach and put a erbs arm in place to grasp
Get the bend out of the elbow, it is less noticeable that waiters bend in the elbow is very noticeable to other kid r others latter in life injury to , but it more about , lack of direction than whining:shock: There is far to many post like this no matter when they happen in life What I have notice over time how others try to encourage other without help or hope, or to many post Our best effort is to help without direction, The bst post is the hope to try to adapt without hope , just try I guess, what works to help a child to realize , that learn your way to fined a way to adapt will happen overtime,by sOOOO many post no matter when they happen
Just thinking
