Mom to be

Post by Jesemega89 »

I recently found out that I am pregnant and I am utterly terrified. I did not want children and in all honesty, it is because of my bpi. I have barely any movement in my left hand, I have a decent range of motion in my arm but my triceps are useless along with half my forearm and my wrist. I know my choice might not make sense, but it was one I was comfortable with. I can not tie my own shoes, or zip up jackets and most of the time when I cook I manage to burn my hand due to half of it not having any feeling. I figure velcro will be my new best friend but trying to keep up with a child will be tough when I can barely manage myself. I am just absolutely lost.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

I second what Courtney as well !!!!!!!!!!!

I know she has much more credibility as a woman that I do as the guy, but I have all five evulsed and only have the bicep, I only let you know that as a referrence that I do almost everything exclusively with one arm.

I have a 6 and 4 year old and I was/am a very active Daddy. I did everything by myself with the kids starting from birth, meaning I had them by myself doing all things necessary to take care of them. My wife even went on a weekend womens retreat five weeks after my youngest was born. So I had both of them for the weekend and did it all, even double diaper duty:)

As far as support, put me down as a resource as well, anything you need, e-mail call or if you are near Los Angeles, in person.

Congratulations are in order! My baby girl is five and I hate that she'll be an only child because of my injury. Truly I believe you can do this! Yes, it will be tough but soooooo worth it. I don't know how extensive your injuries are but challenges are made to be overcomed! If there is anything I can do to assist, please do not hesitate to ask.
