Camp UBPN 2012 Save the Date
Hello BPI Family!
SAVE THE DATES:
Camp UBPN 2012 will be held on (Drum Roll)................... Sunday, July 22, 2012- Wednesday, July 25, 2012!!!!!! We will have it at the same location as UBPN 2010 - YMCA Trout Lodge in Potosi, Missouri.
We know that the Trout Lodge was beautiful when we went last year in October, but the summer time is more convenient for families with children in school. Also, the lake will be open for several water activities!! As last year, our goal is to have a quality camp that is as cost effective for families as possible. The only way we could keep that a reality was to hold camp during the week. With this much advance notice, we hope families will be able to utilize vacation time for this important event!
As you can read in previous posts, camp is not just beneficial for children with brachial plexus injuries, but for the whole family, and also our injured adults.
Registration will open in July 2011, so more information will be released closer to that time.
We look forward to seeing you at Camp UBPN 2012.
Anise Braggs- Camp UBPN Co-Coordinator
Claudia Strobing- Camp UBPN Director

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I'm looking forward to it. The first camp I missed was last year. Can't wait to see the Camp I heard so many good things about. Thanks for getting this information out so early.
It was nice of you to plan it so that I arrive home on my granddaughters 18th Birthday... OM-Goodness... I would hate to have to miss camp. Now I don't have to because we will be back in time to celebrate.

I won't be able to register until much later in 2011 or even in 2012... what happens then? I mean, what if it fills too quickly for those of us who need to possibly save money and/or figure out work schedules? I just don't want to miss out

Hi Marieke,
Unfortunately, we can't guarantee space until registration. A non-refundable registration fee is due at registration and full payment deadlines will be released in July 2012. If you are concerned about space, you can register when registration becomes available, and hopefully you will have a definite answer by the full payment deadline. This way your space will be held. It was a pleasure meeting you at the last camp and I hope to see you in 2012!
Thanks,
Anise Braggs- Co-Coordinator

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: My name is Bridget, my son Brayden has a LOBPI. He was born 5-14-07 and weighted 11lbs 3ozs and was 22inches long and got stuck on my pelvis coming out. All 5 nerves were involved 2 ruptured and 3 avulsed, and also had Horner's Syndrome. He had primary surgery in St. Louis with Dr. Parks when he was 3 months old. He used synthetic materials to fuse the nerves together, because the nerves in his calves were not long enough. Brayden currently does aqua therapy, PT, OT and speech therapy. He has little movement in his arm and hand, but that does not stop him from having fun and being a normal boy!!!

I am in the same boat like Marieke was planning on next years taxes to pay for everyones way! If we can pre register and pay deposit how much of a deposit is it? If it is a pretty resonable one I can handle and go ahead and register and pay off with next years taxes. Almost my entire family is going next year so we are really looking forward to it and want to guarantee a spot for us!
