help with school?

Post by angelsmom4 »

Before I put our Angelina in school this August i wanted to get verything set up for her before hand so she can go the frist day, But the school needs a detailed letter from her doc. stating whats wrong with her and how it will affect her school, before they help her.
Our local doc no about nothing and we only see Dr. kozin about her arm. and he said to have her try everything so now they don't want to help her with things like, opening her lunch foods, writing, carrying, wiping herself. any ideas what do do or how to ask doc. to help??? Thanks, and sorry iam not on more my old computer won't let me in and i only get to the libray in down once a week.
anyway thanks for any help. mealnie , angel's mom

I would get your pedi to write what you want. MAybe even give him/her a copy of what you want said and they can copy it and sign it.

Here are some things you can print out and give them, or edit it to your childs injury

Melanie, Is Angelina's right handed or left handed, and which arm was injured? Did she recieve any early intervention? Does she have an IEP (Individual Education Plan)? My daughter did not qualify for an IEP but the school screwed up and didn't have an OT evaluation completed before determining her not eligible. There is a 504 plan that can be implemented in the school system to assist Angelina with things not related to educational matters such as self-help skills. Also carring heavy books in book bag that can pull on the shoulder, carring her lunch tray, she can also possibly recieve OT thru school system if the injury affects her ability to write, color, cut w/scissors and things like that. Hope this helps. If you have questions, contact your local board of education and ask questions about what services are available to your daughter to assist

Did she get an evaluation done by the school system? If not, then she should get one done. Bring information from the link that someone else posted with you for the OT to see. Bring a list of items that you want to address with you to the meeting (it will be a CSE meeting to determine if she qualifies for an IEP or 504 plan).

You know your child best. Don't take no for an answer. Get the evaluation done.

The Out Reach news letter had a get one for the schools and teachers on what BPI is and what things a child may need maybe you can get a copy of that I took it 9 yrs ago with me to set Frankie up for kindergarden and it was very helpful with his IEP and 504 plan Mare
