"Static" in her arm

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: My oldest daughter suffered a LOBPI. We were sent home form the hospital without being told anything was wrong. She had nerve graft surgery at one year of age, tendon transfer and release at 3 1/2 yrs of age.

"Static" in her arm
My daughter is 5 with LOBPI. Since she has been old enough to convey her thoughts she has never had pain issues except revoery from surgery. Last night she was laying on the couch and all of a sudden started screaming that her left hand hurt. I asked her if it felt like a squeeze or a poke and she said it felt like her hand was full of "static". Any advice? Touching it seemed to make it worse. We are between docs right now and are schedueled to see the new one in Feb.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Hi Cara,
I often have "static", I call it "pins & needles" or sometimes it is also a sudden shooting pain/s without any warning. These have occurred all of my life.

My daughter is 16 now, but her shock pains seemed to come more often during growth spurts. Moist heat helped.

Surgery with Dr Waters (BCH), April 1999 and in February 2012
2 more daughters, Julia (1999), Sarah(2002) born Cesarean.

I hear from my daughter that it is a magnetic feeling. She once "drew" what it felt like and it was a swirl of just scribbling around and around. It is not constant and she never seems that it is unbearable, although I do think it is distracting for her.

Jaime thanks. Rosalynn has had some sinus problems for about two weeks, congestion and caughing. took her to the doc yesterday. She seemed to be feeling better this morning, but at lunch she started running a fever of 101. This is my id that is normally 97. Might explain why she all of a sudden got the feeling. When she had it agian last night she described it as if some one put a long E-STIM glove on her and turned it up all the way. We usually do the Estim each evening, but i have been very lax about it since Christmas. Either myself our one of the kids have been sick it seems and it goes down the list of priorites. (one of those what battle do you want to fight kind of things.)

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I would loose my breath when it would happen.
Shocks, stabbing and sudden. If someone rubs or massages my arm it distracts from the "pain".
I never had the words to describe it but everyone in the house knew when it happened...
I would jump up and down and hold my breath.
I still get it on rare occasions and realize that there is a warning signal but I forget to pay attention to it.
As a teenager my family doctor gave me B12 shots and I had to take extra B (B Complex). When I take the b-12 and b complex these episodes are very rare.
I stopped taking the shots and B and they began again.
The doctor thought I was nuts when I asked for B-12 to stop these shockers. I don't think they believe in vitamins to help this type of nerve pain. I don't care I live the difference. I think they assume it's all in my head... But, I know, it's my arm and when the pain goes away I could care less what anyone thinks.

Javier, 21 months, has been saying eech and pulling on his injured arm for the past few days. under his arm is always extremely raw and red, but now it seems like something is hurting him. Usually tapping or rough rubbing helps, but I think he is having real pain. He doesn't even want me to touch his arm. It is hard for me to hear him whimper, but he can't tell me what is wrong.
