Molly had surgery today
We're here at Methodist Hospital in Houston. It's 6:00pm. She had the surgery this morning at 8:00am.
She was just taken out of the soft splint and put in the "big" splint. Everything went great. She has a morphine pump that she controls...so she looks like she's playing jepordy...she never lets go of the clicker! She is comfortable and her arm is straight out at 90*. The placing of the splint was difficult...not because of pain so much...but because she got sick a couple of times and is very dizzy when she stood up (from the meds) but she says she'd rather have that than feel anything painful. Anyway, thank you for all of the support and prayers...so far so good. They are expecting her to raise her arm above her head eventually. The staff here and Dr. Shenaq are so awesome, I cannot say enough about how caring, wonderful, they joke around, and Molly feels very at ease.

Katie,
Glad to hear that surgery is over and went well. I am happy to hear that Molly is doing well. I am sure you feel like a ton of bricks have been lifted off of your shoulders now that this is over. Well, a huge part of it! Now it's recovery time. I pray that she has an easy recovery as well as excellent Post Op results and progress. Best wishes! Keep us updated.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Hi Katie,
Glad to hear Molly is doing well. How old is Molly? I am scheduled for Mod Quad with Dr. Nath and my fellow OBPI friend Melanie is scheduled for March. We are both adults in our 30's and wondering if we can expect the same results?
Any input on adults recovering from this surgery would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Molly had surgery today
Molly is almost 14...so the way they go about the surgery and post op are the same as an adult. When we get home, I'll tell you everything we've gone through so far. This second day is much better than yesterday.
The splint is not comfortable..even with meds...but not enough for her to cry. She's just kind of quiet, Every few minutes she'll need the bed adjusted or a pillow proped and she'll say, "Thank you, that's perfect." But then about 10 minutes later we move again. It's already so amazing to see her arm perfectly straight out with the split on. She has never been able to do that. The great thing about doing this with an older child is that she's so cooperative. She wants this to work even more than her Dad and I, which is hard to believe. Thanks again for all of the good thoughts from everyone.
