Re: Alternative to surgery
We were recommended to try Botox at one point with lauren for an elbow contracture. We were able to improve it with other means but as apprehensive as I was with the Botox I would say that if I thought it would help I would choose that over surgery.

Re: Alternative to surgery
<t>Well, she's never been evaluated by a surgeon so I cannot answer that question. Our "medical opinion" of choice has always been a physiatrist. She's never been recommended referral to a surgeon by any of her physicians/therapists.<br/> <br/> I don't really have an opinion/information regarding la...

<t>Gayle, were you directing that question to me?<br/> <br/> If so, read on, if not forgive me for being confused.<br/> <br/> Well, hum, "how bad was her injury" that's a tough question for me to answer. Since I've never allowed the docs to do an EMG or MRI, she's never really ever been "labeled" by...

<t>I also wanted to add that we, in the past couple, months with lauren have realized that a majority of the movements that Lauren at first appears to not be able to do are just things that we have never work with alot or that she just does do on her own much in her daily life.<br/> <br/> One of the...

Re: Alternative to surgery
<t>Yes, we made some great improvements on an elbow contracture that Lauren had, oh it was probably a year or more ago now, who can remember! Anyway, we used moist heat and a very aggressive stretching and were able to almost completely resolve the elbow contacture, I think she is still lacking only...

Re: Alternative to surgery
<t>I don't know if you currently have insurance that will cover therapy, but I thought I'd mention that many states (if not most) have programs through the school system that offer free therapy. Call your local school district and see if they can put you in contact with this agency. Also many states...

Re: mild BPI
Our specialist also said that Lauren is not at risk of dislocating and that she is fine to hang full weight on her arm. Actually, he encouraged playground play. Jess

Re: Looking for advice
<t>Lauren is 3 1/2 years. She is awesome, arm included. She had a mild/moderate injury and has recovered very nicely without any surgical intervention.<br/> <br/> It has always been my first and foremost thought from day 1 (well maybe day 2, lol) to keep her a child first and worry about the arm sec...
