Re: Pelvic instability in mom following shoulder dystocia?
<t>Yes, I fixed my email address. I live in Florida - the Melbourne area. I will probably go the PT route at this point; I feel pretty confident in this therapist - I saw him before for my neck, and he has a lot of knowledge in the area of necks/backs. He said that the pelvic issue is usually taken ...

Pelvic instability in mom following shoulder dystocia?
<t>I just went for a PT eval for my neck and back, and they found that one side of my pubic bone is higher than the other with pain around that area. I didn't think to ask then, but I thought later, I wonder if it could have been caused by shoulder dystocia during labor/delivery. Has anyone had expe...

Re: How do I let go??
<t>Our school system allows parents who choose not to put their child in a program to still bring them for a therapy appointment. In our area, it is required that the school system provides therapy after age 3 (EIP before age 3), but they have to qualify. They have to be in another ex ed program lik...

Re: spontaneous recovery?
<t>Meant to add also, because you were asking what else to expect in terms of recovery, that nerve regeneration can happen until about 18 months of age, and after that you can have more progress with strengthening.<br/> <br/> Also, biceps function before 3 months of age is a very good sign, and one ...

Re: spontaneous recovery?
<t>My 2 y/o is one that I think some people would have thought had a "full recovery." She had only finger movement/grip at birth and also brought her hand to her mouth around 1-2 months, although she began by cheating, bringing her head to her hand as much as her hand to her mouth. Nobody can tell s...

Re: Is inducing labor a cause?
<t>I think you're right about inducing being a cause, but just wanted to stress it can happen without induction. I had none of the typical risk factors, baby was 7 lb. 9 oz. (not in a critical weight range, but 1 lb. bigger than her non-BPI sister). I was not induced or given any drugs and labor wen...

Re: Taping ???
<r>Yes, everyone responds differently, but applying a thin layer of Milk of Magnesia and allowing it to air dry before applying the tape can help the skin to not react. Also with my daughter we put the baby oil on the tape (they make baby oil gel now that doesn't run) and let it soak for an hour bef...

Re: What does taping do?
<t>Taping is used for support as mentioned and kinesiotaping, since it is flexible, can also be used as a muscle assist.<br/> <br/> It can help with writing to stabilize the scapula if "proximal stability" is the concern, meaning the center of your body needs to be stable in order for the extremitie...

Re: Symposium Tidbit: Why Wheelbarrelling for our kids is a
<t>Angie, the length of the arm issue is because the long bones grow when there is weightbearing/stress placed on them (GOOD stress, I mean!). Tha is the reason so many kids BPI arms are shorter - because they never could weight bear in a typical way or the same amount as the non-inj. arm.<br/> <br/...

Re: Taking a poll on height.......
5'2" and first child (non BPI) 6lb9oz. 2nd child (ROBPI) 7lb9oz. I always wondered about that, since she's not in the "at risk" weight range, but I guess that's at risk for me. The OB said that extra pound made all the difference...
