I just posted this on the other thread. It's taken from the UBPN sample Proclamation letter:

persons affected by brachial plexus injuries can experience secondary issues which may include low tone (hypotonia), developmental delays, speech dysfunction, chronic ear infections on the affected side, possible hearing loss, nail bed dysfunction, weakness of the foot on the affected side, postural issues that may eventually lead to scoliosis and other secondary health issues.

Wow, we have had a pretty good recovery but I am vbery worried about scoliosis. My 2yr olds posture is exactly as described above. belly sticks out so much. I really have to stay on top of this.

Possible hearing loss? What's the connection between that and BPI, I wonder? Does anyone know?

I am a forty-seven year old male with scolisosis. From 10 until 13 I wore various body casts with one arm casted outwards held up by a wooden pole. At around fourteen I was put into a new device called the Milwaukee back brace and wore it until I was almost eighteen. Through the years with the brace they kept developing it and it became less burdensome and more comfortable. At about eighteen they took the brace off because x-rays showed I was done growing. At nineteen I had an unexpected growth of several inches and my vertabrae couldn't handle it and by age 23 was told I would probably not live much longer. I had developed a 62 degree S-curve and my heart and left lung were so cramped I had trouble even breathing. Well, long story-short one of my Harrington rods (I have two) has broken off at the top of my vertebrae. I am in constant pain with difficulty breathing. My vertebrae is very arthritic now and I have trouble doing anything without pain plus my breathing is very poor. In 1999 I had brain surgery to remove a cyst in the center of my head. I am forgetful now with awful short term memory. I have not been able to work in quite along while. Am I going to have trouble getting on disability? Any suggestions?

chiropractic adjustments of the spine can help avoid scoliosis which definately is a secondary issue for some OBPIs.
