Hi Melissa,
We were at TCH just 1 1/2 weeks ago and they put her in a hard cast for the first day, and then made a special splint for her the next day. She seems pretty comfortable in this one. The splint has not slowed her down at all. As dar as bathing her, she sits in the tub with a little water to clean her bottom half and we sponge bathe her top half. We find it easiest when we change her bandages and do her range of motion exercises all at the same time. We were told not to wash her incision area until the strips fall off. I am not sure why there are different techniques for different children. That is a good question, though. If you ever have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

In perusing this hand/arm therapy catalog I saw silocone patches that they use inside a splint when a sore spot pops up. Maybe you can use this idea too?

They sell silicone patches in the regular drugstores now for help with scars. Maybe a bit of glue will hold it in the cast....or the other way, tape it down to the skin?

If you are using moleskin on the inside of the cast...can you put something like Desitin to quickly hear the sore spots?

just brainstorming for you.....it reminds me of blisters in tight shoes and I know that they hurt like the dickens if they are not taken care of

Hi Francine, Well I tried the mole skin & the redness has already decreased ALOT. Thank Goodness! As far as the itching that has also minimized a bit, last night was a pretty good night. The doctors told me to give her benadryl for the itching because I absolutley could not put any kind of ointment/cream near the casting, so that kind of stinks because she gets so irritable & sleepy but I guess whatever it takes to get her through the nights is most important because she needs her sleep. This morning was our first day out in 1 week!!!! I was so excited, Ashley did so well
we already got inquiring ???'s just as I expected.

I have taken pictures, just haven't gotten them developed but plan to this weekend. I will e-mail some if you'd like? Melissa
