We just got back from San Antonio 2 weeks ago. We stayed on the riverwalk at the Contessa Hotel. Absolutely beautiful. The hotel opens onto the riverwalk and you are within 2 blocks of the Alamo, ripley's and the wax museum. It is 10 minutes from the airport by taxi. I can't wait to go back, the riverwalk is just lovely, especially at night. Of course we didn't have the kids with us and I would have been really nervous with all our little ones as their is no separation from the water.

We live in Katy, Tx. (Cinco Ranch) and the school systems are exemplary (KISD) rated. Katy is a really nice place to live, everything you need is within 15 min. or so to get to. The Woodlands and Kingwood are nice as well and it will remind you of N.J. We are originally from the Montclair and Wayne N.J. area. I hope this helps, if you have any question feel free to write back.

SugarLand, Texas is in Ft. Bend County next to Houston. You can get on highway 90 and zip right down to the medical center, or use the frwyway and tollway. Ft. Bend I.S.D.is an excellent school district.

We just moved to Minnesota from Danbury, TX, which is just south of Houston. We loved it and miss it alot.
It is very hot in the summer, and HUMID. But there is always air conditioning! The winter is wonderful. The temperatures are almost always very mild.
Housing costs are great too. Our home was 1700 sq ft and sold for only 105,000. You would have no trouble getting a fantastic home there.
As far as the schools in Houston itself, I don't know. But in Danbury ISD, It was wonderful! The teachers are great, and classes were small...almost always 20 students or fewer. The teachers really care and will do whatever it takes to help your child learn and enjoy school.
My 4th grade DD was learning Multiplication and Division this year. By 6th they are learning early Algebra. In 8th they start a second language.
They have Accelerated classes for kids who can...and slower classes for the kids who need a little extra help.
Choir, band etc in Jr and High School. Every year the grade school does a Christmas concert.
They compete in Statewide academic, and athletic competions. And do well.
And there is a wonderful Little League program, and Little Dribblers for kids 6th grade and under.
Danbury is a 30 minute drive south of Houston, small town, but worth every minute!
