has anyone qualified for disability because of bpi?

My son was 18 when he had his accident. He was approved for SSI. He never worked so it is not SSI based on work history or our income but a Supplemental. I guess we are lucky in that area because it also makes him eligible for medical. We have medical insurance but now it is a secondary insurance. He did have to go through two medical evaluations with Social Security Doctors. He also suffered a brain injury. It is possible that the combination of both injuries helped in the approval process. I do have concerns as to his future and what his abilities will be relating to a career. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was approved for SSD about 3 years after I applied. I had to appeal it and did so with an attorney! It was a long process but it was worth it! I did get retro active money from the day I first applied. My attorney was contingent... they did not get any money unless I won, I think they got 20 or 25% of my lump I received. I was ok with that

I won my cased based on documentation from my doctors that I was NOT done with surgery!! This honestly was how I won mine! I urge everyone to get this in writing from a doctor!

It has been 4 1/2 years since I first applied for SS for my daughter with Erb's. I actually have applied to different times. Appealed twice and on the second time around got an attorney. In the state of Idaho, it is not required to have 2 disablilites in order to apply for SS. I believe in fighting for what my daughter deserves to have. I am having my SS hearing for her in 2 weeks. I know she will get it. If someone with depression can have SS so can my daughter who has an arm that does not work properly and will have it for the rest of her life.

Hello fellow Michigander! My husband has TBPI, can no longer work as a construction worker. I felt why give lawyers any dime towards SSD, I can do this myself. I read anything and everything possible regarding the ins and outs of winning SSD... I filed at our local office in person and had copies of every hospital stay, every report, doctors notes and a letter from his employer, even the SS Clerk was impressed with how organized it all was. I filed July 7th and the letter came in October. We were devastated when that denial letter came.
We obtained a lawyer that specializes in SSD & Workers Comp for my husbands union..he feels very confident we will win our case. However, the huge kicker... We met with the lawyer in November, he filed all ppwk to appeal in early December. We have been advised in the State of Michigan, the courts are so backed up with SSD and Workers Comp, there are not enough judges to hear all the cases.
The backlog in Michigan as of December 08, 2008 was 18 months... I was shocked, and there is nothing more we can do to expedite our case b/4 the backlog they already have. If I could ever go back and do it over, I truly made a huge error on not obtaining a lawyer right off the bat, we would have the SSD by now. Please talk with a lawyer, do not fill out anything until you do...
