Hi Joy-
To me, the pain in the top of my shoulder is related to my scapula not being in place. The pain in the neck at this point, could be something else.

I am at the 2 year mark on my shoulder problem, and I still have pain in my neck. My doctors in general ignored that because they were focused on my arm, and to them, the arm is the arm, and the neck is not part of the picture. But, in the case of BPN, the neck is part of it, and the doctors I have had were wrong to ignore it when I said I had pain there. The brachial plexus is after all, at least in part, in the neck.

So, my most recent doctor finally listened to me and suggested to check my neck. That was done with an MRI. The thing is this. Maybe your son has BPN caused by a virus. Maybe it is caused by something else. If they have ignored his neck pain, like my original doctors, they do not know the total picture. The things that can cause similar symptoms are in the neck and they can show up on an MRI.

Has Mark had an MRI of his neck?

I have scoliosis in my neck from the BPI. There is a vertebrae about half way up my neck that sticks out on the right side, trying to balance the weight of my left arm.

The massage has worked the best for me for the pain, although acupuncture & chiropractic also helped.

It might be something else in your case, but have you checked your spine alignment? The body always tries to find a way to balance itself, which can throw everything else out of whack.
