I wonder if this is also why many of our kids have sensory integration disorder? It makes sense that if the nerves are recovering and sending jolts when they experience sensation, sensory integration in the months immediately after birth might be derailed?

Interesting...

Aria screamed nearly nonstop from birth to 4 months. She was exclusively breastfed, also. We thought it was terrible colic, as we were ASSURED by her doctors that she was not experiencing any pain from her OBPI. (how on earth they figured that is beyond me!)

She, also, had a dramatic reduction in her irritability following her primary surgery at 5.5 months.

That IS interesting...Cassidy also cried non stop from birth to about 4 months, again she was breastfed....
I was always assured she wasn't in pain but maybe she was.
I remember the only thing that seemed to calm Cassidy was when my husband would swaddle her up really tight...I mean tight! maybe it gave her some relief...maybe try that...I hope it gets better for you and your little one

Dawn,

Aria also calmed when we swaddled her extra tight! I had forgotten about that!

I fully believe my son was in pain. Two things to share.
One thing that really helped my son was to not lay him flat on the ground. We used one of those boppie pillows under him. Have his shoulder up some seemed to make a difference.

Also prayer. I don't recall what age he was but we finally realized that in all of our praying we had never actually asked for his pain to be healed. We prayed for healing of the injury but never specifically about the pain. While at church the was a time when prayer for pain was offered and I stood up for it (for my baby). The effects were wonderful. Even his therapists noticed. So I say pray specifically about the pain.

Blessings,
Kristie

Joseph aslo didn't want to be layed flat. I would sleep with him on my chest when he was just newborn. After that he slept in his car seat until he was about 2-3 months old. It all makes sense now!

Maggie also cried all the time, until her surgery that is, I also nursed her. The only thing Maggie wanted and that would make her not so fussy is being in her swing we had to take that thing everywhere.

One of my siblings told me "no one slept for the first year after I was born".
He is 14 years older than I am.

I always had some sort of pain and have a very high pain threshold.
I have many sensory issues. I hide them well and learned how to compensate around them. But I still have to cut the tags out of my clothing and cannot wear anything tight.

Kayla like everyone else cried a lot as a baby. I never really thought about it until this post I am sure she was in pain. She is 11 now and still has pain which is some what under control with medicine.
