Dear Michelle,

Though my son has been under Dr. Nath's care since he was 5 weeks old, Dr. Nath didn't suggest doing surgery until the Triangle Tilt. The TT addressed all of my son's issues -- supination, bent arm, winging, and very internally rotated. We traveled from Oregon to do the surgery on 9/28/06. After seeing my son in person, Dr. Nath suggested adding the Anterior Release, because my son is very muscular. Now, 5 months post-surgery --- I will say that I'm happy w/ the results. It was amazing just to see my son's arm straight for the first time. And, the look in my son's eyes when he shows me something new -- like how flat his hand is -- makes it all worth it. I will say, that so far, we still can't get his arm straight up above his head... but, Dr. Nath warned us of that, and still thinks the arm could get better. As far as deciding whether or not to do surgery -- I did struggle with it a little, but what made me sure to go ahead w/ it was that it made sense to me that as the body grows, the deformities that my son had would just get worse. I know that might sound kind of simple, but that's really what made me decide to go ahead. And, as far as Dr. Nath -- he was perfect for us. When I carried my "baby" boy ( o.k. he is 4 ;-) into that operating room, I felt very confident that Dr. Nath was the right guy to do the job. :-) I wish you all the best, and do trust your gut ! april

Hi
My name is Tine I have been a member for a while but when I decided to take a break from the sight I usually forget the pass word..(I have now decided to save it.)I'm back and let me start by saying that We, meaning my family, love Dr. Nath. My son Mark was born almost 13 years ago with a severe brachial plexus injury to his right arm. Back then we did therapy just like everyone else. There were many procedures but mark was never a candidate for any of then including the mod quad. Through the years even though Mark was right handed he learned to play sports and compensate by using his left arm. Mark was always able to use his right arm for righting school work but when it came to throwing a ball turning a doornob it wasn't possible. I have followed Dr. Naths medical procedures for years wishing there was something new out there that would help Mark. Two more kids later, job and residence relocation I sort of lost tract of the site in early 2000. Two weeks before Marks 12th birthday in 2006 something brought me back to Dr. Naths site and there it was the new procedure that may be a help to Mark.....Dr. Nath was doing the TT surgery and Dr. Nath was here in NJ doing evaluation. I was nervous and concerned and also had my doubts that Mark would not be a good candidate but I called immediately and made the appointment. Dr. Nath looked at Mark and immediately said he was a teriffic candidate. I was so happy I cried in the office and the whole way home. I then spent days looking at the pictures on Dr. Naths website; they were amazing...I felt like I was looking at my son (the arm positioning, the elbow flare, and winging scapula all these kids had it) and Dr. Nath gave us hope. Mark had surgery in Aug of 2006 he is 7 months post-op and doing wonderful. His shoulders are aligned and the winging and flaring are gone. He can supinate better and has the length in his arm back. We were doing therapy for a while but Dr. Nath said on our last visit that therapy can stop and regular sports and swimming will be just fine. Mark will be playing baseball in the spring!!!!! Mark continues to wear the saro splint at night and will do so until August. God was there with me that day and brought me to Dr. Naths site once again.
Dr. Nath is talented surgeon and has a heart of gold he has given back hope to so many kids. I wish you the best of luck. P.S. You can find pictures of my son in Dr. Naths new Book (mark is the boy wearing the south park boxers:)
