Hi again.

In reading over my post, I realize that my answer to #3 isn't complete. I didn't say that I already had a driver's license, so a temp wasn't necessary at that point. My license is restricted to power steering, or a spinner knob; and automatic transmission. I wanted to see if I could get the automatic transmission restriction removed. That's why I got the letter from the state BMV.

1. In a pinch I can write with my BPI hand....VERY messy, time consuming, and it doesn't take long to become painful.

2. Yes, I actually can type pretty well..about 50 to 60 words per minute. I use my left thumb to support my hand so that I can type easily. But, once again, not for long, or it becomes very painful.

3. Once again, in a pinch I could. It is very hard. I too have a hard time steering with my BPI hand while shifting. I have to shift VERY quickly, or I would probably end up in the ditch! Thankfully, I don't have to drive one!

4. Yes, I can play piano and guitar. I took piano lessons for several years and taught myself guitar. Playing piano becomes painful pretty quickly though. After a 20 minute lesson I would be in pain for the rest of the day, and sometimes into the next day.

I taught myself on the guitar. I lay it on my lap and that way I can hold down the strings with my BPI hand, and strum with my right. This, too, becomes painful after 15 or 20 minutes.

I can not play either well enough for anyones enjoyment other than my own (or my kids....they think I play WONDERFULLY!:))

I am Left TBPI for about 15 years now.

1. I have trouble holding the pen/pencil. But, could print if I had to. Thank goodness I am right handed!

2. I can type. However, lots of breaks, along with support on the wrist and arm. Did I mention LOTS OF BREAKS? :-)

3. I can drive a stick shift. Unfortunately, I don't feel overly safe doing so. I don't have the control of the wheel that I am comfortable with. So if I have to drive my husbands car I make sure it is only on short trips.

4. I could not play an instrument well BEFORE the accident. If I had the talent I am not sure if I would be able. The whole grip thing, nimble fingers thing, lack of control of fingers when I am tired thing... just a lot of things that would not jive with playing an instrument. But, on a positive note (pun intended) if I had the talent I would do my best to figure out a way to play.

Interesting questions and answers! Maybe we should do one of those "New Edition Get to Know Your Friends" just adapt it to BPI questions!

Thank ya, thank ya very much, Kath and Carolyn...(in my best Elvis voice) I do what I can to spread as much Joy around as possible. :-) Now you all know there are a lot of other jokes within that statement. But, this is a family board and I will not post them. However, I do expect you to amuse yourselves privately at my expense!

I write really well with my BPI hand ..but I use my unaffected hand to use utensils.. so it's easier to raise up to my mouth.

I type fast and pretty accurate... no complaints.

As for driving stick... I can do it, but can't get to the higher gears very well.. I stick with automatic and love my controls on the steering wheel!

I used to play the violin in Junior High... but I don't come from a very musically inclined family. I stick to CDs and the radio.
