First appointment with pediatrician
First appointment with pediatrician
I am very nervous. Avery has an appointment with her pediatrician in 1 hour. He is only her doctor by default (he was on-call the day she was born).
He seemed really nice in the hospital but I don't really know if he has any experience with BPI. When he saw Avery in the hospital his manner was nice enough but all he really did was pick up her injured arm, let it drop and then said that she would need physio.
I have phoned the College of Physicians and Surgeons to see if there are any specialists or doctors experienced in working with BP injuries in Saskatchewan. I had to leave a message so I don't know the answer yet.
I am very anxious to find a doctor familiar with this and who won't just brush us off with a "wait and see" approach. I know that that's what we have to do to a certain degree but, like I posted previously, I don't like the "It's probably better than you think" approach. I would rather be realistic, find out all the possibilities and be pleasantly surprised than assume that it will go away and then be sad when it doesn't. KWIM??
Anyway, this is just rambling...it's all I can think about right now. I want to ask the right questions at the Dr appt. and for everything to go smoothly. We'll see...

Hi Bonnie, I live in Canada too, not in Saskatchawan but in BC. Good luck with your appointment today, I think you are doing the right thing, calling to find a Doc who knows more about BPI. Children can make great strides and it is kind of a waiting game, but it would be good to have a specialist see her, and keep up with her progress. Good Luck to you and the kids.

PS I have a 6 year old Daughter, Ashley who has a RBPI.
She is scheduled to have her first surgery in March.
