Cast-away party! cast-off, splint on, bath, and therapy
Hi Everyone,
Well, yesterday was the big day. Sophie got the cast off. She moved her arm quite a bit, consider it was in a cast for 6 1/2 weeks. I think she was expecting to be able to reach the clouds right away, so I warned her that it would be "tired." She did great. Then they made the splint for her - much better than a cast. Then home for a 3 hour nap! Then we celebrated with chocolate cake and sang "happy castaway to you!" and blew out candles. Then the long-awaited bath!! I think that felt really nice. Then she did her exercises - she put her finger to (well IN) her nose, to her ear, back of her neck, then we helped her reach to the top of her head, then she did one that wasn't on the instructions sheet - she reached out (best she could) and gave me a hug!! Of course, it was tough convincing her that the splint had to go back on!
What a trooper. I know it's too soon to tell if the surgery worked, but at least I know that she's at least as good as she was before. Keep it up, Soph - we're so proud of you!

Congrats on the cast being GONE! Sounds like Sophie did very well. Cute that you had a little party for her! Hope she keeps up the good work and you see more new improvements!

I'm glad to hear that everything went so well.
I hope that she keeps improving.
We are still waiting for all the approvals on pre-op testing. If I understood case worker right, the surgery has been approved already, just waiting for the pre-op. Her surgery is scheduled for February 23rd, so we still have some time left before then.
Congrats to Sophie!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Way to go Sophie!! It is so cool you had a party! I'll have to try that next time. Glad to hear she's doing so good. She will continue to improve. I think Savannah is getting stronger each day. And her reach is a miracle. Heather in KY
